    Guide to Brill Trolley switches
    Remote Mirror
    = Right hand side power mirror

    Emergency Door Open = Opens the rear door (and center on articulated 60ft buses) while the front door stays closed

    Door Master = Overrides the rear door interlock so the bus is drive-able with the doors open, or when the low air warning (a brake concern) is happening, or when you want to override an articulation angle warning (if you are turning too sharply in an articulated bus). This will manually override most safety functions and is to be used by mechanics like myself in certain situations.

    Rapid Mode = Allows for rear door loading when the hand treadle for the front doors is activated

    Current Collector Down = If your polls on a trolley bus are within 10 degrees of straight in either the left or right direction, you can hit this switch to manually dewire yourself and holster the polls a meter or two above the holsters (the hooks at the back), this is so you do not have to get out of the bus and pull the poles manually to EPU (emergency power unit) yourself out of traffic. This uses air cylinders for lowering, and centering (separate air rams) which are located on the roof, i can take some pictures of these if you want. These are attached to the trolley base.

    Black button Beside current collector switch = An alarm that will tag the video recorders in the bus to a point 5 minutes before an altercation. If you press this black button you are tagging the digital video feeds in the bus for transit security, and the video will be reviewed and time stamped for your protection. It is best to have video evidence of assaults and this helps the drivers with evidence.

    Master Run Switch = The big black circle knobby thing :p, Off = Bus off, Day run = on with no interior lights or headlights, Night run = Headlights and interior lights, Night park = parked on the side of the road but you want some lights and power available on the interior.

    Coast/Power Switch = The most used switch on the side console, this is how you power or coast switches you find on the road, for example to go straight on a wire or to make it go to a different wire that will make a turn. Whenever you see a trolley bus slow to 5-10km/h and jump to a new wire, they are using this switch to do it. In that Brill i posted up there was no power/coast switch, what you would do is either step on the gas or not and that is how you power/coasted switches. We have a much better system now days because you do not have to time your line changes as much. If you look all around Vancouver just after the switches digress into other directions, you will see a set of what we call "Tear Drops" on the ground pointing in a certain direction, left or right, that is the direction of power. If you want to head to that direction of line, you will "Power" the switch, if not you will "Coast" the switch.

    Silver Hand treadle = forward one click = front door opened, forward 2 clicks = front door opened and rear door interlock engaged (you are also able to touch the hand bars and open the rear door as it is now activated). Backwards one click = rear door activated and front door closed. Backwards 2 clicks = rear door activated and front door activated.

    Hill Holder = Same as a rear interlock engagement where the rear brakes are applied electronically but no doors activated, this is for if you are on a hill and do not want to roll backwards before you have a chance to hit the gas when the light turns green, you can step on the gas before releasing the hill holder switch, release the switch, and get power from a standstill.

    Kneeler Switch = Drains the air from the right front bellows (air bag suspension) so that the bus kneels for passenger loading, this is useful for older people who cannot step into the bus, or when loading disabled customers in wheelchairs

    Stow/Float/Deploy ramp = If bus is in Neutral, interlock engaged, the wheelchair ramp can be deployed to assist loading of disabled customers in wheelchairs, this is usually used in conjunction with the kneeler switch to lower the bus as close as possible to the ground on the loading door.

    Drivers light = On = light above driver turns on, auto = light turns on when front door opened

    Hazards = Pretty self explanatory

    Body Heat = The floor and roof blowers that provide heat to the interior of the bus. Auto = on until a set temperature is reached, this temperature is set by a mechanic or electronic technician and is variable via a drop down interface that is in the rear of the bus right above the huge roof filter you see in the interior, it can fold down and give a user access to the heating system set points. Vent = just blowers, no heater coils activated.

    Blower speeds = High and low.... just a fan speed thing

    Left and Right dash fans = These are the two black dash fans you see on the drivers dashboard at the front of the bus.

    Chime = You can use this momentary switch to shut off the "next stop" light that appears on the dash when someone pulls the chime cord, if you want to get rid of the light without cycling the front doors, which is the only way to get rid of the "next stop" light other than using the chime switch.
