... a radio station interviewed the business owner today. why is the news media so shocked that someone dislikes the LGBTers? the lady is entitled to her opinion and shouldn't be attacked for it. the two radio hosts i heard were going after her like pit bulls and both of them were gay!

 

People are certainly entitled to have opinions, whether or not those opinions are conventional, aligned with the general consensus, and/or are politically correct. However, the entitlement to having and expressing such opinions doesn't extent as far as the freedom against having those opinions challenged--especially when they are as charged, extreme, and frankly repugnant as those posted above by GeoPond. The freedom of speech is the freedom of speech without government censorship, it is not the freedom of speech without having to deal with any consequences of that speech whatsoever from other parties (regardless of whether or not they believe that their respective religious beliefs justify that speech).

This person openly expressed her very charged views in public forum(s), often via account(s) listed under their business' name. Others are free to in turn exercise their own freedom of speech and express their own dissenting opinions publicly as well, including the advocacy of a boycott of their business. Facing such criticism for making statements slandering another group is not tantamount to religious persecution, that's a weak argument that insults those around the globe who truly do face religious persecution.

Anyone who would make such extreme, divisive statements in public (under accounts clearly linked to their business no less) and not expect to subsequently face a backlash of this sort--especially enraged protests and boycotts on the part of the group that she slandered, compared to pedophiles, and stated she would not do business with and the negative media coverage that entails--is frankly quite the fool. She made her bed, she can't expect to not have to now lie in it.

(It would be an entirely different matter if we were talking about censorship on the part of the government or if the line into criminal harassment were crossed at any point by either side of the debate, but that doesn't seem to the case thus far.)

 

... oh, so the woman in question is entitled to voice her opinion on her own facebook page? because the impression i'm getting is that people feel she should shut up ...
