How to access HKTV in Canada or overseas (internationally)
Best option in terms of speed and reliability would be to obtain a Hong Kong IP address via VPN or VPN tunnel:

• PureVPN - As low as $4.16/month; supports HK server
• Unblock-US - Free trial but may not support HK IP; this is one of the better VPN services for watching US content

Browser extensions, some of which are free but not guaranteed to work. May be very slow especially if you are overseas and far from HK.

i figure out best way to watch hktv in canada, usa, australia, new zealand, uk..everywhere internationally!

i try zenmate method from youtube video above but it does not work well. very very slow and laggy. i don't know if unblock-us support hong kong yet.

best vpn for hong kong that i have tried is PureVPN. it is working well for me and I can watch the streams good luck

 

PureVPN works for watching HKTV in Malaysia for now but in Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia and Singapore, they will show it on TV via distributors like Astro so you do not need VPN unless you want to watch the shows on demand.

I do not know if United States and Canada have similar arrangement for HKTV.

 

Does anyone know if Unblock-US does indeed have Hong Kong IP addresses?

 

I'm using ZenMate and it says my IP is from Hong Kong. I can't find the streams though? Can't read chinese . How do I watch episodes?

ughh... zenvpn is just as bad as zenmate! don't bother. can someone confirm if purevpn works well in CANADA? i don't want to spend money just to find out that it's too slow. soo sick of tvb and fairchild, let me watch hktv please!

 

after a lot of frustration i figured out how to get hktv working reasonably well for FREE. this only works for video on demand (VOD) it does not work for the "Watch Live Channel" stream.

here is what you do:
1. turn on zenmate
2. go to https://www.hktvmall.com/hktv/en/
2. click on VOD above the video player
3. choose what episode clip you want to watch
4. load the video
5. when it starts to play (after the ads), TURN OFF ZENMATE
6. the video will still work and will be lag free
7. for the next clip, you have to turn on zenmate again and repeat steps 4 to 6.

The live connection is bad for everyone even those in Hong Kong so it doesn't matter what VPN you use. HKTV only has enough bandwidth for 400,000 users at time.

The Ustream ones are working for me in Australia (Melbourne).

 

The overseas HKTV GitHub is great. A bit laggy and jumps around occasionally but smoother than the other free options.

The paid VPNs work fine for on demand content. Can't really expect the live feed to work in Canada without buffering, we're too far lol!
