Post some odd, interesting, or cool (odd is better) courses you've found.

The Cultures of Manga and Anime: In this course we will look at manga, anime, and related consumer goods and cultures in and beyond Japan. The course will incorporate a range of genres of manga and anime that target a variety of audiences. We will analyze the texts themselves, along with who is consuming these works and why. We will question the extent to which these various genres are representative of "Japanese culture," as well as the influence they have had on it. We will also specifically examine related subcultures in Japan, including those of otaku (obsessive fanboys and fangirls) and fujoshi (rotten girls), and fandoms outside of Japan. We will use a number of analytical perspectives in the course, including those coming from gender and sexuality studies, and from globalization studies. The required readings (and viewings) will include both manga and anime themselves, in English translation, and writings that take critical, ethnographic, and historical approaches in analyzing these texts and cultures.
