China’s protests have officially gone too far: Chinese man beaten for driving Toyota

As the anti-Japanese sentiment continues to spread across China, the Beijing government has been seen as doing little to stop the violence or destruction of Japanese property. Cars from Japanese manufacturers have been destroyed, along with Japanese supermarkets and restaurants, never mind the fact that these were businesses operated by Chinese nationals. Well, the outpouring of hatred in the name of nationalism has truly gone too far as even Chinese nationals are becoming the victims of violence in ways that will hopefully cause the Beijing government to start tightening the ropes.

On Sunday, September 16th, Sina Weibo, the Twitter-like Chinese social networking service, erupted with the news that a university student had been trampled to death, and another man had been severely beaten just for driving a Toyota Corolla. The male student, only 21 years old, lost his life after being crushed under an out of control anti-Japanese protest in the city of Xi’an, Shaanxi province, on September 15th.

Shortly afterwards, in the same city, it was reported that at around 3:30 PM, a Chinese man was dragged out of his Japanese-made Toyota and beaten unconscious by a group of nationalists. The victim is still alive, but doctors say he may now be paralyzed on one side of his body for the rest of his life. All of this, including the violence taking place at the various Japanese embassies in China, over a couple of stupid rocks in the East China Sea. Are they so important that they justify nearly killing a man just for driving a Toyota?
