BC NDP leader Adrian Dix caught without transit ticket

British Columbia's NDP leader Adrian Dix says he has absolutely no excuse for being caught without a ticket on the Lower Mainland's SkyTrain rapid transit service earlier in March.

Dix said he had bought a day pass earlier, but couldn't find it when stopped by Translink's transit police.

"I was going downtown — bunch of meetings on a Saturday — I was stopped at Granville SkyTrain Station by these guys, by the transit police. They were actually very, very reasonable; very, very professional."

Dix said the incident happened more than three weeks ago, but only came to light when someone tipped off a reporter this past weekend.

The transit police let the NDP leader off with a warning.

Vancouver mayor Gregor Robertson wasn't so lucky when he was caught without a ticket five years ago, and fined $173.

 

What a dick.

 

... he says he bought a day pass but misplaced it. why not take him on his word that he actually did purchase the proper fare? sounds like dix was targeted for political reasons ...

 

... i now note that he was let off with a warning. and this is a news story in what way?

 

To the people who doubt Adrian Dix did purchase a ticket, there are 2 ways Adrian Dix can prove that he did purchase a ticket:

1. If Adrian Dix paid by credit card or debit card, he could show his receipt for the day pass he claimed to have purchased

2. Have TransLink released the video that he was at the ticket vending machine purchasing a day pass

 

... lol ...

... yes, yes, yes. but why is it that a rider is able to access skytrain without paying in the first place?
