Agent Orange use in BC for power lines and highways

If you're familiar with the defoliating chemical, Agent Orange, used during the Vietnam War by the US, you might be surprised that it was used in Canada to clear brush near highways and power lines. Someone told me about this the other day. I was initially skeptical, but looked it up online and it checks out.

Agent Orange can cause birth defects, cancers of all types (lung, bone, blood etc.), respiratory problems, digestive problems and probably more due to its high toxicity and carcinogenic properties.

BC Hydro and BC's Ministry of Transport used it during the 60s and 70s to defoliate and clear vegetation. Both entities deny using "Agent Orange" because the ratio of herbicides they used was different but that's clearly hair splitting because the ingredients are the same. There are former employees of those organizations who are now suffering health effects but as far as I know, the issue hasn't gotten that much attention.

Asbestos affects much more of the population and is widespread throughout the world but Agent Orange is more hazardous but more limited in usage.

 

I'm surprised that agent orange is used here in Canada back in the 60s and 70s.
