Hi! I'm from Belarus. Since my last summer, when I was invited to visit my relatives in Vancouver, studying in canadian university was my dream #1. I was working hard at school and just a few days ago I got admitted to the University of British Columbia, one of the top 40 universities in the world!!! But, unfortunately, I didn't won the International Student Humanitarian Award (only 28 people of 250 got it). And I so upset about it. Now, when I'm admitted to the university of my dream, I don't have money to pay for it. Salaries here in Belarus are so low that my parents are unable to pay even for a half tuition fees. :'(
I don't know what to do now.
Maybe anyone knows if there are any other ways how to find money for my education? Maybe some humanitarian organization could help me? Or maybe some company will pay for my education and I will than work for it? I'm looking for any possible way to study at UBC!
HELP me please if anyone knows smth. I should accept UBC's offer before June 1st. So I don't have too much time. Please help to make my dream come true!

Thanks for your answers in advance !!!:)

Tough situation to be in! Unfortunately I don't have much knowledge about sources of funding for international students. Are there any banks in Belarus that will offer a line of credit or loan for you to study abroad? Sadly, I don't think you can apply for government loans here unless you have permanent resident status.

    Some options:
The Paras Education Foundation seems to offer loans for international students - http://www.isloan.org/

Once you are studying at UBC, they have a Work Learn program where you work jobs on campus for subsidized (and very decent) wages. There are admin/clerical jobs like working in a library, but there are plenty of opportunities to work in lab and research environments as well. See this page for information: http://www.students.ubc.ca/careers/students/work-and-volunteer-opportunities/work-study-work-learn/

These UBC pages have information on international scholarships and awards:
    https://you.ubc.ca/ubc/vancouver/intlscholarships.ezc?pageID=1097
    http://www.students.ubc.ca/international/index.cfm

The Canadian government also offers some international scholarships:
    http://www.scholarships-bourses.gc....on_can/opportunities-opportunites.aspx?view=d

Are you coming here for graduate school or undergraduate? If it's the former, there are additional funding options:
    http://www.grad.ubc.ca/prospective-students/international-students/funding-international-students

Canadian banks and credit unions typically offer student line of credits. I think you have to be a Canadian citizen or PR, but they might make an exception or be able to offer an alternative. We have 5 major banks here in Canada.
Hope this somewhat helps. I'm sure once you're part of the campus community, you'll get tons of tips and advice from other international students.
