    Gong show today!

There were 5 16s parked at 63rd loop and another 5 parked along 63rd Avenue....truly a gong show....busses running up to 2 hours late!

Would def like to see the terminus clear of snow....buses were getting stuck at 29 Station.

Wow! Just looked at the overnight for Surrey: TON'S of overtime there today!

Richmond was not immune to yesterdays craziness: all the bridges and the tunnel had lengthy; every slow back ups all morning. I lost 40 minutes on one trip just due to back ups.

It was crazy yesterday. I left the yard to go NIS to Metrotown to do one round trip on a 106. It took 50 min to get there. Then it took 3 hours to go from Metrotown to New West Station. Cars, trucks and buses stuck everywhere. I got hung up a couple times in stops and had to back up a bit to get out. Finally I just started stopping in the road and putting the 4 ways on to avoid getting stuck completely.

I was 1.5 hours late back at Metrotown for my relief AFTER going back NIS and was over an hour late for my second piece at 22nd St. I missed a whole trip on a 101 and one trip on a 134/136. I could not get hold of T-Comm so I NIS'd myself to Lake City Station to get myself back on schedule at 1947! They finally called me back when I was almost done and said great! Thanks for calling. Carry on! lol

And as a side note: I can't believe people were still complaining about having to wait "over an hour" for a bus to show up. SMH

I heard quite a few shuttle drivers have to work out of Poco now from Hamilton due to not enough work there. So I think I'll stay on as casual for awhile longer. I prefer working out of Hamilton, closer to home and I know almost all the routes now. I'm just curious, if I was to go for conventional, do we have to apply straight from the beginning again? Fill out application, send in resume, video testing?? Just wondering.

You would have to submit an application, but you only have to go through the driving test and the medical exam.

Seems to be a fair amount of Overtime again; scooped up nearly 4 hours OT today!

Twice a year, April & Dec, we get our AV Differential, based on how much OT you worked last year; and mine was a nice surprise! Extra $$$ for Christmas!

The company often needs like 300 new trainees per year; PLUS TransLink is also planning on expanding the bus system by 10% over the next 24-36 months too!

Customer Information tend to lose people to other departments. It mostly opportunity to move from being a casual to being either a Parttime regular or Fulltime regular. Of course, there are some personnel loss to from retirements and other reasons. Few months ago, they lost a lot of people (both regular and casuals) to positions that opened up in the lead up to the opening of the Evergreen Extension. Due to space limitation, they can only train 8 people (max) at a time. And those 8 people will go through 2 exams during their 5 weeks training. Even if it is an internal hire, they have to go through the 5 weeks training and pass the two exams. You fail the first one, you are out. Fail the second one, you are out. So at the end of the training likely they won't even get all 8 that they hired. Three months ago, it was mentioned they needed to fill 16 openings and 2 training classes after, those 16 open slots are not filled out yet.

    Week 5 & 6 updates:

I had 9 days of line training, followed by a final evaluation day on Friday. The line training was helpful. I am happy to report that I've passed the evaluation! All that's left is graduation on Monday and I'll be out on my own on Tuesday. :D

I guess this concludes my updates on my training process. Good luck to those already in training or in the application process! If you have any questions, you can ask me as well (a recent graduate) and I'll try my best to answer!

FYI: The 2 week "Dec" sheet starts tomorrow; and then the 16 week "Jan" sheet starts Jan 2. When looking up paddles online, just make sure you are looking at the right sheet!

We'll be signing for the "Apr" sheet late March, or very early in April.

Merry Christmas everyone! Stay safe out there!

Merry Christmas Gang! Hope everyone is safe out there!

I might not be popping in here as often for the next few weeks/months; (Mom's in hospital and in need of a transplant.)

I'll try to keep at least a weekly look in here to help with any questions.

FYI: Re Monday Jan 2: Because Jan 1 falls on a Sunday, many get Jan 2 off in lieu; BUT TransLink is running REGULAR Weekday service except No West Coast Express.

Hey! Haven't checked in here in a while, but successfully passed my road test! All references have been done/letters of employment submitted, so just waiting to hear back in the next day or so about booking a medical (knock on wood). Just out of curiosity though, I have a question about how vacation works. It was mentioned during the interview that people get zero vacation during their first year. How true is this? Should I expect absolutely no leeway when it comes to booking any time off at all, of any length? Or is it possible to make arrangements for things during the first year? It's possible I'll have a family event in Manitoba to go to around Canada Day. If it's not possible to book official time off, are there other options? Is trading a shifts a viable option to get a week or so off or is unpaid time off something that can be applied for? Thanks in advance and sorry if this has been discussed before!

You can trade shifts, you might be able to arrange a leave of absence, subject to manpower needs.

    Rumours, rumours, rumours:

I haven't heard anything official, yet; But am hearing thru the bullpen grapevine: that now that the Mayors have approved the funding of the 1st phase of a 10 year expansion plan: "Suburban" bus service, and bus service "South of the Fraser" is slated to be INCREASED by at least 10% over the next 12-24 months.

They NEED to hire approx 300 more drivers each year just to keep service levels where they are today; And ANOTHER 300 more to INCREASE service over then next couple of years.

Apparently some of the recently retired 7100's, 7200's buses have been put into storage and will be reactivated as early as the April sheet change!

I'm guessing the suburban depots will need MORE drivers over the next 4-8 sheet changes to staff the increased service levels.

As soon as I see anything official: I'll post it here!
