Hi gang, just read a company bulletin dated today, March 27, that all new training classes are on hold during this health emergency.

Hello Folks, I’ve got a few questions regarding the application process.

I am soon to be 19 and will be getting my Class 5 (assuming all goes well), and I want to get into CMBC as an Operator as soon as I can. I know my age may be an obstacle in terms of getting a conventional job, but I know they hire post secondary students for shuttle jobs.

I know quite a few CMBC employees, but none of them are Ops, so I can’t ask them.

What should I do as soon as I get my class 5? Do I just need to get my 4A “learners?”, and then I can apply? Should I go straight for the conventional job? And does seniority transfer over from Shuttle to Conventional?

Hi Gang, not sure how many still pop in here, but here goes: April 20 TransLink announces 1492 lay offs system wide due to plummeting ridership and revenue. Nearly 1000 Conventional operators and 91 shuttle drivers are being laid off as of May 18. The plan is to hopefully need them back again as early as September.

The plan is to throw out weekday bus schedules and run Saturday service levels on weekdays all summer long.

There are always rumours at transit, and the latest rumour is possibly even more layoffs... But, things change daily!

Community shuttle Operators start out as casual. Once you gain regular status, you then get a seniority number which does transfer to Conventional.

Prior to the covid 19 craziness, CMBC was hiring and training 500+ Conventional drivers each year; and I would guess less than 100 shuttle drivers.

Hi Gang: June update: NO layoffs; extra funding secured from the province.

Was surprised to see an INTERNAL posting pop up this week looking for more Conventional Operator trainees. Currently only existing employees can apply

 

UPDATE: Training for Conventional drivers resumes June 15; starting where they left off back in late March.

That driver posting recently ended. Other opportunities are listed and come and go all the time.

 

FYI: TransLinks computers were Hacked Dec 1; Most online functions are currently not available, including job postings and online applications.
