Hi guys, I survived my first week of training - it was no joke as has been said many times. A bit weird that those who had air brakes had to do a second in-house knowledge test, but thankfully I passed it.

Still terrified about how I'm gonna memorize the pre-trip, and a bit confused about when it is. Is it still day 9? Like usually the second Thursday of training? That would be next Friday for us due to BC Day. I can't find any info in my handouts or online login.

I don't know why I didn't clarify this before the weekend, was in too much of a daze from all the testing/homework/driving/long commutes.

CORRECTION: Training pay rate is $17.52/hr. Part-time employees get 13.5% in lieu of benefits and the chance to opt-in after six months. Full time employees get benefits. I don't know if there's a waiting period or what it is.

Sign up for September is pretty well finished, I think the final 40 or so newbies sign tomorrow.

Richmond is full. 80 Operators chose to transfer into Richmond, and 7 chose to leave. Richmond needed more operators to cover the #49 service.

We'll be picking our 2018 vacation weeks next, in late Sept or early in Oct.

Note: no sign up reliefs for vacation sign ups. If you can't be there in person: leave as choice slip! Look for bulletins after labour day.

FYI: Richmond depot is set to get 2 double deckers this fall, on a trail basis, to test out on highway #99 routes.

One is currently being tested out by training and maintenance staff.

Passengers should expect to see them this fall on routes such as: #351, #601, #620 as well as possibly on rush hour #311, #352, #354, #602/3/4, #606 & #608.

For those of you who have access to the employee website, there is an article about the 2 test double deckers coming later this fall.

Completed training and have been released to drive the unsuspecting public around solo. ;-) I love the job so far. Have driven West Van routes (251, 252, 256) and North Van routes (214, 227, C15). The only shuttle route that West Vancouver Transit operates that I haven't been on solo is the C12 Lions Bay. I won't be doing that one during this sign up - new sign up is in mid November.

Thanks, Superchecker, for the help and especially the encouragement.

    Congratulations!

I survived the summer shifts which included dealing with multiple road work zones all summer.

New shifts started Sept 4; lucked into an air conditioned bus on a very warm labour day. Helped put out a small brush fire yesterday.

Hi... I was a shuttle bus driver with CMBC. They recently terminated me, long story short, my mom was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and I needed time off to be with her. Well being casual and on probation I couldn't work. So they fired me.... my mom died July 29. I love driving the bus and still would like to do it so I'm wondering how did u apply with West Vancouver?? Did the process take long? How did u know they were hiring?? Any info will help and be appreciated !!

Dam, sorry for your loss. I for sure know how it feels with my father dying from colon cancer. However, I would try to get the job back. Because, i find the firing totally uncalled for and a bit harsh. GUess you tried talking to union?

Sorry for your loss. 2017 has truly been a shitty year for people we know passing away. I lost my mom in March.

West Vancouver has their own municipal website and occasionally hire. They recently took over all north shore community shuttle routes. Their postings also pop up at www.civicinfo.bc.ca/careers/

HandyDart is often hiring as well. There is a link off of the TransLink website, or Google MVT Canadian Bus.

School bus? Casino bus? Seniors centre bus?

(Any chance of chatting with a union rep?)

Have you become a Conventional Transit Operator since 2014?

There is a new voluntary survey about the recruitment process on the employees only website.

Talk to a Union Rep! that is not just cause for termination regardless if your on probation or not you have a right to take time off if a family member has a terminal illness.

https://westvancouver.ca/career-portal is where Blue Bus driving jobs are posted. There is nothing at this time - but we are short - staffed for shuttle drivers (Community Bus Operator) so they may post it again. I applied to the posting that closed June 16 (Job ID 6460-17-ATU-07), did testing on June 29th, an interview on July 17th and my hire date was August 17. I could have started a week earlier but I had to arrange vacation time and notice with my previous employer.

Could someone please update if Community Shuttle Drivers get full time hours to start with or they have to do a second job with it? I have just been let go from the Conventional Bus Training Program after getting Class 2 with air brakes endorsement in accordance to ICBC standards. Guess it was trouble with Trolleys and wires and everything. I have been offered training for Community Shuttle but as I understand there is no guaranty for full time employment.
I am in the waiting period for transition from Conventional to Shuttle and am skeptical about my prospects with the company. Any information will be very helpful.
