    The Senior Manager, Data Centre Operations is responsible for all aspects of BCLC’s data centre operations ensuring availability of services including new technology implementation, disaster recovery capabilities, data security and integrity, audit compliance and asset/contract management. The role leads the development and implementation of data centre strategies, including partnering with external organizations to develop and implement new service delivery options.

    Key Accountabilities:

    • Manages multiple teams responsible for a specific portion of the overall DCO operations including shift operations, software support, database support and infrastructure support.
    • Ensures that the functionality and reliability of 7X24x365 services provided by the DCO meet customer Service Level Agreements and expectations. Acts as the point person for decision making, communications and escalation of significant issues to the VP/CEO and other business customers.
    • Responsible for a high degree of regulatory compliance, with numerous ongoing audit activities as required to maintain our license to operate within BC, and provide a high degree of transparency and integrity.
    • Develops long term workforce strategies including staff recruiting, development, training, coaching and conducting performance assessments of team members.
    • Works closely with the Technology and Operations Services (TOS) Director on overall management and direction of the department and all business planning activities, and provides leadership and mentoring to the larger BT management team.
    • Provides technology direction, planning, implementation and operations across all lines of BCLC business, ensuring alignment with the BCLC Enterprise Architecture and Solution Delivery framework.
    • Provides ongoing participation and leadership within BC Gov and Crown Corp technology initiatives focused on cross entity collaboration, new services development and cost reduction programs.
    • Develops, maintains and manages high level relationships with external service partners to deliver new opportunities and high business value to BCLC. Provides senior level oversight in negotiating high budget contracts and developing strong vendor relationships and partnerships to ensure cost control and optimal results are realized.

    Minimum Required Qualifications

    Education and Experience

    • Degree in Business, Commerce, Computer Science, Mathematics, Systems Engineering, Management of Information Systems or Information Technology;
    • 8 – 10 years’ in Information Technology including experience managing a data centre in a complex organization;
    • 3 - 5 years experience working with ITIL methodology;
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

    Technical Requirements

    • Demonstrated ability to build strong and trusting relationships with managers, employees and peers;
    • Demonstrated experience in strategic business planning and resource management in a leadership capacity;
    • Strong strategic thinking skills – ability to find innovative yet practical strategies to achieve goals, links several strategies into a unified plan, while anticipating needs and looking future focused;
    • Excellent organizational and planning skills with a strong attention to detail;
    • Strong working knowledge of Data Centre best practices;
    • Strong understanding of issues and challenges facing modern data centres;
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
    • Excellent problem solving and analytical thinking/innovation;
    • Exceptional time management and multi-tasking skills;
    • Strong business acumen with a results oriented focus;
    • Believes in continuous improvement and driven to question and improve processes, systems, practices as appropriate.
