I'll be living in Victoria for the next few months for co-op and am wondering if anyone knows any must try places? Up for any type of cuisine!

What are you doing for co-op?

    Tacones, Fish & Chips
    Red Fish Blue Fish

    Self-Explanatory
    Pig BBQ Joint
    Cold Comfort Ice Cream
    Pizzeria Prima Strada

Latin American (awesome here, on par or better than Vancouver)
    Hernande'z Cocina
    La Taquisa
    La Fogata

    Burgers
    Bin 4
    Pink Bicycle

    Japanese (not rolls)
    Uchida
    Daidoco

    Breakfast & Brunch
Blue Fox (never tried but super popular, crazy line up)
Shine Cafe (it's alright, found it expensive for what it is)
John's Place (some things are good, a lot of people like their Benny's but I found the Hollandaise too rich)

    Afternoon Tea
    White Heather Tea Room
    Fairmont Empress ($$$, tourist trap)

    Fancy $$$
    Zambri's

    Indian
Amrikko's (pretty good, but more expensive than Vancouver)

    Chinese-Canadian food is everywhere.
Sushi, authentic Chinese and Vietnamese: eat it in Vancouver. There are decent options available if you're craving it but you'll be paying more than you would on the mainland.

    Breweries
Phillips, Driftwood, Lighthouse, Hoyne, Vancouver Island Brewery

    Brewpubs
Swans, Spinnakers, Canoe and Moon Under Water

That should keep you busy :p.

Oh, someone recommended Pure Vanilla Bakery to me but I haven't got around to trying that either. It's on Cadboro Bay.

Not everything on the list is "must-try". Didn't read your post correctly the first time around.

I'm definitely avoiding all the Chinese and Japanese food there. Any places like a bistro?

    I don't know what bistro means :p.

As for Japanese food, Uchida and Daidoco (reopening as a food cart) are pretty unique and I wouldn't write them off. I think they try to locally source everything and use a lot of organic products. Their facebook gives an idea of what they offer: https://www.facebook.com/UchidaEatery

Looks good! Will check them out on days where they don't serve fish.
A casual restaurant but not like a fast food place i.e. The Flying Pig in Yaletown? Any French places?
