Tech Nokia Symbian - can't turn off alarm or pick up calls when touchscreen is locked

I found this out recently and decided to start a thread in case anyone else is unable to get the touchscreen buttons to work when the phone is locked. You have to slide your finger (like an iphone) across each button option for it to register.

Before figuring this out I thought the phone was broken since the buttons looked like they were meant to be pressed and not slid over. I would have to pick up calls using the hard buttons. Alarms were even more annoying since I'd have to press the red button, go into alarms and then turn off snooze.
