If Surrey is not as good as any other BC city, SFU (Simon Fraser University) won't be having a campus there and endanger the safety of the students. And that campus in Surrey is a recent addition to the various existing SFU campuses.

If there is a "Detroit" of Canada, it would be the Interurban Campus of Camosun College.
It's in the middle of nowhere, and being a student there for even 1 year will send you into a downward spiral of mental health issues.
I was a student there in 2007-2008 and I've never fully recovered.

I like Surrey. The people are real and friendly. Even their crisis line is more reliable than Vancouver's: 604-951-8855

Why it's not Detroit?....no steel mills, car manufacturing.....

... if you mean in the sense that detroit is the motor city, then no, surrey is not the detroit of canada. that would be an auto manufacturing city in ontario ...
