Here's my list of credit card recommendations. I've only highlighted the most unique feature of each card and what the card is good for. Don't expect it to be an all inclusive list of their perks.

Capital One Aspire Cash World - General spending
1.5% cash back on all purchases
Get $30 free if you apply through GCR

MBNA SmartCash - For groceries and gas
2% cash back on groceries and gasoline purchases up to $400 a month spending.
Get $60 free if you apply through GCR

Amazon.ca Chase Visa - Use for cross bordering shopping, international orders and amazon purchases
No forex transaction fees (most cards charge 2.5%), 2% cash back on amazon.ca purchases

American Express TrueEarnings (only if you are a Costco member) - Use for restaurants and gas
3% cash back on eligible restaurant purchases, 2% on gasoline up to $3,000 spent annually.
Get $20 free if you apply through GCR

Note that all the above cards have no annual fee. If you spend a lot, cards with annual fees may be better!

Added GCR links and rebate information for each card.

Great Canadian Rebate offers cash back on online purchases and credit card applications. So you basically get free money for every approved application. Only catch is that you have to sign up for an account first.

They pay through cheque ($20 minimum) or paypal ($5 minimum).

    Steps:
    1. Sign up for account here: https://www.greatcanadianrebates.ca/
    2. Log in and click on their credit card page
    3. Click on your desired card and complete the application

As far as I know, you can get the rebate on multiple cards, so if you applied for all the cards I've recommended, you'd get $110 in total if they're all approved.

Nothing new under the sun when it comes to credit cards other than lots of unpaid debt.

If you need help managing your debts to avoid bankruptcy you should talk to somoene who can help you right away. Always file your tax returns to show you are doing your due dilligence. Hiring someone to help you with this can be worth it.

Friends of our swear by the TD Travel Visa!

They charge e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g- they buy and then earn enough reward miles/points that they can both travel to Europe every 2 years....

Thanks for the useful information. I'm also looking for the best credit card I could get. Unfortunately, for the last few years many of the biggest credit card companies have raised interest.
