Cigarette Pack Warning Photos: Too Graphic?

    ... there was a discarded cigarette package on the ground and it had this picture of a person with their mouth open and the person's tongue was all swelled up and it had these horrible tumors and blisters on it. it was totally disgusting! i just can't believe the picture was real. there's no way anyone would be able to live with their tongue like that, they wouldn't be able to eat or breath. unbelievable ...

    ... what do you think? are the warning photos on cigarette packages too disgusting?

    is reality too disgusting? in some cases yes it is. but people need to see the reality of mouth cancer caused by smoking. they never had this when i was a young smoker and it would have worked for me. the US has much better public service msgs re: anti smoking. ie. the woman who was bed bound due to stroke from smoking.

    ... thanks for your reply, flutterby. but are those photos on the packages actually reality? the ones i've seen look fake, like they've been created in some hollywood makeup effects shop ...

    ... i thinks it's disrespectful to the customers for the government to force tobacco companies to put such atrocious pictures on the packages. and if smoking is so poisonous, so lethal, why hasn't the government banned it outright? the fact that the government doesn't prohibit smoking seems to suggest it isn't as bad as they claim ...
