Looks like free roaming is over, so it would be a good time to set your phone to manual for network selection to prevent your phone from not working (if you don't carry a MyWallet balance) or unnecessary roaming charges (if you have do have a MyWallet balance). I have to say that while Mobi claims that their network has been optimized, there are still plenty of holes within their coverage area.

Yeah, there are holes alright and data is still as inconsistent as before. I wonder how long we have to be optimistic until their services improve. Wind had a year before getting to where they are now and it's still not up to par. Will Mobilicity take that long or longer?

Every time Mobi makes a bold move to be competitive, Wind undercuts them. Since Wind has better consistency, it's hard to justify going with Mobilicity unless you're getting a discount. Right now the best deals are with Mobilicity if you prepay, I wonder how Wind will respond?

Mobilicity announced at their HoFo meet that new phones were coming (Nexus S included) in a month or two and that they are spending 2011 improving coverage density rather than expanding, which is good. One hole they haven't fixed is at 41st and Granville. They also stated that getting SMS shortcodes (eg: texting 33333 for translink bus schedules) to work is a top priority.

  5. Just joined the network yesterday and was surprised when it didn't work in the Canada Line (didn't do enough research). Glad I found this thread though.

Does it work at Pacific Centre now at least? My office building is literally attached to the Canada Line/Pacific Centre so I'm a bit worried. It works in my office though since we're high up which matters the most I guess.

I called them and the Mobi rep said they're probably not going to have underground reception anytime soon. But, this is from one source only so not sure at all. Anybody have any insider info as to how long it'll take just to get coverage on the Canada Line at least?

New Mobi User, even Wind don't have coverage underground, so maybe you'll have to wait a year.

I switched from Bell Mobility to Mobilicity in December 2010 and signed up for the $40 bundle which included unlimited everything (talk, text, data). It worked fine for two weeks then I could not receive any reception in some areas in Downtown (where I work), then it stopped working in Burnaby (Metrotown, SFU, etc.), some areas of Vancouver (Stadium, Main St., Oakridge, etc.), and Richmond (Aberdeen, Richmond Centre, etc.) too. The sales representatives were unhelpful when I asked them about this issue regarding reception, so I cancelled my Mobilicity plan and went to Rogers. I'd rather pay more to another company to get reception and service. Not saying Rogers or Bell are great companies, but at this rate, I still haven't received my refund cheque since January and after calling customer service at least 10 times and promising 6-8 weeks, they said today that I will not receive it until June...

Yikes, I haven't had to deal with their CS but they sound horrible from what I've heard so far. File a report with the Better Business Bureau (http://www.bbb.org/canada/), that usually forces companies to expedite things. Alternatively, if you paid by credit card you can do a chargeback.

I already tried to file a report with BBB, but they do not list Mobilicity under the 'file a complaint' form. Unfortunately, I paid by cash in person :(

Hey EnVy, stumbled upon this the other day, thought it might be useful:
They appear to be like the BBB, but for the telecommunications industry.

I switched my Rogers phones three weeks ago. 3 hours later I noticed that I did not receive a signal in my house. I returned to the store at Hazeldean Mall Kanata where I had to re-purchase two sim cards at Rogers store in order to be reactivated. I then went to Mobilicity (in the same mall). Mobilicity refunded my money for the two phones and could not return my $90 for the first month service on both phones. The manager said I would get a check sent in the mail in 3-5 days. I returned to the store several times during the week to see if they would reimburse me for the $22 I spent on replacing the sim cards. The manager stated " I am waiting for my boos to get back to me on that". The 5th day after I returned the phones I returned to get an answer as to why I did not receive my $90 and also the $22 for the sim cards. The manager stated " sorry, we are not giving you the $22 and your check is in the mail. I then said that I will inform all customers that your service is poor and product is awful. I stood outside the store and waited. The manager called security and they in turn security called police. Oh, I live across the street where I bought this product with no signal.

Hi I purchased a Samsung Gravity Touch with Mobilicity. The rep said it was an androis phone and I would be able to pick up free WI-FI signal...ie in the air[port,at Starbucks etc....However it is NOT TRUE !! When I had a problem as no one could get it to work...I went to Mobilicity in N Van and the rep said she hated that phone but she didn't know how to do it either. However finally after much frustration I spoke to a rep at the Tinseltown store and she said..It does NOT pick up WI-FI,,,and that she had called Corp office and advised them the advertising was misleading. It is NOT a real SMART phone. AVOID this phone!!!

Same thing happened to me with Wind Mobile! I switched to Bell's Virgin Mobile in December. Already paid Wind Mobile in advance, so I called them for a refund. Told me they'll mail me a cheque. They never did. Called then last week and they told me I'll receive a cheque in 4-6 weeks.

Have anybody look into BMO's TalkandEarn? They usae the same network as Rogers, which means same reception and coverage as Rogers. Their 500MB smartphone plan with unlimited text and free call display is only $40.

What is the best service provider for a good signal, cheap bills, and works outside Vancouver as well. I would prefer to stay away from the big 3, because that's who I'm stuck with now.

Check out BMO's Talk and Earn. http://talkandearn.ca/

They use the same network as Rogers. So same coverage and signal as Rogers.

Have you looked into Chatr? It also uses the Rogers Wireless network and they do offer data now.

Chatr seem to be as expensive as the big threes. They are own by Rogers. I think BMO's TalkandEarn's $40 smartphone plan is one of the best smartphone plans out there. It's the same smartphone plan as the big three's $50 smartphone plan. With BMO, it's only $40 and you get free call display! So you save $17 a month! Wind and Mobilicity you get limited coverage and weaker reception/signal dual to the fact that they are more new and do not have as much cell phone towers. On BMO's TalkandEarn you have Rogers's coverage and signal! It's a real plus.
