    "
The road back to health after flu can be a particularly long one. Here we explain what you should be doing to build up your immune system and fight off any lingering effects.

    DO

Have a Turkish bath: The flu virus can linger in the body for five to six weeks after the symptoms have cleared. According to Professor Ron Eccles, a specialist in cold and flu research, the heat of a Turkish bath can steam out the virus, which thrives in a cold nose, from the body."

    • eat Kiwi fruit high in Vitamin C
    • Rest
    • suck on spoonful of natural, unpasteurized honey
    • live yoghurt for good bacteria
    • grate some garlic over hot soup and consume
    • take supplemental zinc (many lozenges have this now)
    • lots of fluids
    • NO sugar
    • NO strenuous exercise
    • clean your nose with salt water *

    * most recommendations above are from original article but I added some info from personal experience.

*use sea salt if possible = more good minerals and less harsh
    * use filtered water = no chlorine

Does anyone know why Vicks has no Camphor in it when purchased in Canada? This is the only really useful medicinal ingredient in this stuff and for some reason it's in it in the US but not in Canada. Some government regulation?

... last time i had a cold i decided to purchase a herbal tea to hopefully alleviate the symptoms. i discovered that there were a number of medicinal teas you could buy, including one with Echinacea specifically for fighting cold and flu symptoms. but then i noticed a warning label on it that was so harsh it discouraged me from buying it. basically it said that you shouldn't drink it if you have a number of illnesses, especially infections ...

... strange that a tea could be considered so dangerous ...

Really? I thought tea is good to recover from common cold or flu. I tried drinking ginger tea that relieved me from a sore throat and nasal congestion.

Yup, grated ginger and lemon juice in hot water is great. Really clears out the lungs.

... oh, i'm not saying tea isn't good for fighting the cold or the flu. i'm just stating that there was a stern warning label on a medicinal tea. i didn't make that clear?

... anyway, i did end up buying a normal citrus tea -- but i stayed away from the medicinal ones with the explicit warnings ...
