... had this happen at an iron maiden concert i went to in tacoma one time. bought a t-shirt from a vendor and was stiffed on the change ...

... i'm pretty damn sure he did it on purpose too. when i noticed he'd given me too little change i said something and was then given the correct amount. i've also had in happen once or twice when shopping retail. however i don't think it was deliberate in those instances, just an error ...

... have you ever been shortchanged when buying something? how did you react? did you manage to get the right change after complaining? have you ever done this to someone yourself? i'd imagine that bar patrons would be easy targets for shortchanging, the drunk ones anyway!

    ... comments?

Yes, in fact I have been short-changed in reverse when I was working at The Body Shop in the 90's. Someone claimed they had given me more money than they had and hence expected more change back. I was taught to 'count back' when giving back change and to keep the money a customer gives me beside the till until after they receive their change.

... good post, flutterby! yes, what you've described would be a tricky situation for a cashier to have to deal with ...

    ... thanks for your comment!

I once brought an empty 2L Coke bottle into a bottle depot, and instead of giving me my $0.20, the guy gave me a toonie. I didn't even say anything.

There used to be a guy who worked @ an East Indian place @ 50th & Main who was notorious for shortchanging I used to delight in giving him a hard time/making him look stupid with his idiotic lies and evasions because he could never beat me-after a while I stopped going but I was in there a few months back he's long gone and the place is better run.

Someone who worked in a muffin shop down the street tried the same shit and I just acted calm & vaguely threatening and for the next half dozen visits he just gave me handfuls of change while shaking in his boots then he quit-the muffins really were good.

Never happened to me, but I pay with credit card nearly 100% of the time. But still, always check your bills.
