FYI: To all current employees who have access to the internal/Employees only website: There are more pic's and information about the New Hamilton Depot now listed. I would assume there will be some sort of Open House in late August, details to follow.

More and more Ops in Richmond choosing to switch depots in Sept. I guess there are more attractive shifts elsewhere.

Can you guys tell me if is it hard for a new hire to stay at the Port Coquitlam Depot as a spareboard (like hold the spareboard position on that depot)??

Chances of staying there at consolidated are slim as it is a very senior depot, but there is always the option of putting your name on a holding list to go back if you DO get transferred.

After signup, the depot can reassess the manpower needs required for the sheet and takes ops from the holding list based on their preference and seniority. You then go on the spareboard for the remainder of the sheet unless you sign a notice run.

A notice run, if you're not sure, (and if you prefer not to be on the spareboard), most depots will also have need of ops to cover work for drivers that are off on short - or long-term disability, leave or other reasons. Generally that work goes to the spareboard but you can put your name on it and if you hold it for 3 days, the work is yours either until the operator comes back or the end of the sheet, whichever comes first.

I may have to go this route as I am not sure I'll be able to get where I want at this point. I'm currently at BTC which is filling up fast. HTC is apparently half-full already. I would like to holiday block at HTC or RTC if I'm choosy.

I think last night was some kind of record for me for different routes driven in one shift! Started out the night on a 130 for 2 trips, switched buses at Metrotown and continued on with a couple of 116's, a 112, a 129 and a 110 to finish the night! I don't think even shuttle in Maple Ridge does that much interlining lol! Gotta love variety!

Did a 401; 410; 104; 410 on one bus; and then another round 410 on a 2nd bus today. Gonna miss those #104's.

Got back to the depot to see a brand new 40 foot New Flyer xcelsior diesel just arrived into Richmond. We're (apparently) getting 40 of them over the next few weeks. Saw (coach#)16102. The remaining 7100's, 7200's, 3200's and low 3300's are set to be de-commishioned soon.

So, apparently TransLink is launching an ad campaign on buses that we are hiring more drivers; YET when you go to www.translink.ca/careers and click onto Coast Mountain Bus Company; we are NOT currently accepting application as of today's (July 6)date??? Stay tuned I guess.

Hi guys. Can you tell me if CMBC drivers get any discount at the skytrain park and ride locations?

I know that there are a few designated spots at the south Surrey park n ride.

I think that Surrey depot might have a few spots at Scott Road station.

Generally speaking at the park and rides, no not any more. Used to be free at Carvolth and South Surrey. I still park at Carvolth for $2 a day when I need to, so it's cheap. I have been told by other ops that if you are displaying your window hanger you won't be towed or ticketed but I'm not willing to take that chance. Unfortunately we pay the same as everyone else... goes for tolls too

SOME stations have a few spots to park only of you are ON SHIFT and start/finish there. You may have to check with the depot office or other drivers to confirm where...

    The ones I know of:

Coq Stn, North end of loop, several spots closest to Barnet. (last time I used was 2014)

Port Moody - 2 or 3 spots in the east lot (last time I use was 2014)

Lougheed Stn - a few spots in west lot (confirm first)

Joyce Stn - 2-3 spots at west end of loop.

Most every other loop/relief point requires you to park on the street somewhere. Be careful! Watch for residents only signs and other restrictions as you WILL be towed...

    As Gc13 mentioned...

...and It's been a while since I took that test but if I remember right, remember a couple things:

    1) Safety first!
    2) Safety first!
    3) Safety first!
    4) Common sense

I'm half kidding but really it is about safety - for you, the bus and the passengers. Also trying to avoid confrontation, calling for help if needed and trying to defuse potential situations are key to keep in mind. I don't remember the specific videos but if you remind us of the vids and questions it might be a little more helpful!

Use safety, customer service and common sense as your guides.

Remember, you are going into this video test WITHOUT knowing the policies of CMBC. I don't think this is a right or wrong answer type thing as much as a BEST answer to judge how you would react to certain situations. Use your best judgement to answer how YOU would handle the situations in question. I think they want to see more of your temperament and problem-solving skills, than an ability to adhere to a rulebook.

I think a lot of people go into the test trying to give an answer that they think CMBC wants to hear. Don't go into it that way, rather, using the above guides, answer how YOU think the situations should be handled.

    Make sense?

RTC has begun assigning the first 2, apparently of 40, new 40 foot New Flyer Xcelsior buses! One was on a #401/410 today, and one on a #403.

    Hi guys,

I'm new to the forums and have been reading up as much as possible but was hoping to get some help. I am also in the recruitment process and was looking for an answer but didn't find it. I will be doing my panel interview soon and was wondering how it is and/or if you might have some advice? Is it similar to the multiple choice questions we had? Any and all help will be appreciated!!

They will use the STAR Technique were they will ask to describe a situation that you were in or the task that you needed to accomplish. You must describe a specific event or situation, not a generalized description of what you have done in the past. They want you to describe the action that you took and the result: What happened? How did the event end? Example: Have you ever had a conflict or disagreement with one of your coworkers.
They will also present you with situations that you might find while driving the bus and ask what would you do in that situation. Example: you know that bikes are not allowed inside the bus but the bike rack is full and you come to a bus stop at 11:30 pm and find a 11 year old girl with a brand new bike. What would you do in that situation.
So it will be something along those lines.
    GOOD LUCK!
