Just discovered this new Viet sub place on Victoria and 38th. They have a 20% Off Grand Opening special from April 18 to May 2nd, 2015.

It replaced Can-Trust Aquarium and Grocery which has been at that spot forever. The space has been renovated so it's clean inside with lots of seating available.

As for the food, I got the #1 special. It was tasty and on par with the top Vietnamese sub places in Vancouver. Bread is baked in house and they are generous with the toppings and pate. This place is legit.

Banh Mi Saigon is slightly more expensive at $4.50 (compared to $3.75 at Tung Hing Bakery) without the discount. I wish their pickled vegetables were more sour but that's a personal preference. Of note, they have a decently sized menu which includes fresh sugar cane juice. Only thing I would add is a nem nuong (pork patty) sub and maybe more drinks like avocado shakes, jack fruit, soursop, plum soda etc.

They also sell large plain baguettes. Supposedly, you can convince them to make one into a giant 22" Vietnamese sandwich but your mileage may vary as it's not a regular menu item. No idea what they charge for the monster banh mi.

This has become my go to place. Banh Mi Saigon has fresh bread and is generous with the filling. I retract my earlier comment about them being more expensive as their cold cut for $3.75 is equivalent to other place's specials.

Went to Tung Hing and quality of the bread has gone down. Not fresh.
Ba Le is always good but prices are comparatively very high for much smaller portions. I did hear a rumour that the owner's son died unexpectedly in Vietnam so maybe they're going through tough times.

PS: they now have nem nuong but I haven't tried it yet.

I've actually been going to this place every now and then.
Their hours are a plus as they're open 7AM-7PM, but my girlfriend said that they may not be ready to serve at 7AM..
She got there around 7:10 one time and she was turned away because they weren't ready yet

The sandwiches are pretty good. I actually kinda prefer it when the bread softens after a few hours
Otherwise, service is alright. The staff there are pretty nice, but are prone to error when things get busy.. I had an order of 4 sandwiches that was forgotten about..
