Well, Canada's cities are like small cities in the American Midwest. With the possible exception of Metro Toronto, the skyscrapers of downtown are not that vastly removed from the woods. It's not like greater Los Angeles or the Tri-State area surrounding Manhattan where you can be fifty miles away from Times Square and still not be in the countryside.

In the past three or four decades, greater environmentalism and enforcement of conservation laws have enabled the numbers of once-endangered species to rebound. Inasmuch as we humans have eaten up much of their habitat, inevitably they counter-spill over into human habitation.

I've only ever seen them around the Deer Lake area in Burnaby.

Send those coyotes to Dania Beach in south Florida. We have various bums, drunks, junkies and assorted riff-raff who need to be eaten.

The only way to deal with the coyote issues is to build an Acme Supercentre on the corner :p

Coyotes aren't uncommon near the SFU campus on Mt. Burnaby (among numerous other such wildlife).

(Not to sound too patronizing, but by contrast it seems downright quaint that UBC are making such a big deal out of their a-bit-too-comfortable-around-humans coyote.)

A salient concern is whether they have rabies. Have the local animal control authorities looked into that?

I don't think we should cull them, but those in the cities need to be caught and relocated to the mountains. I don't think its right when they attack people or their pets. It causes hardship and its a safety concern. At least in urban city areas.

I recall an old news article about coyotes where they said that it is not possible to cull the coyotes because they reproduce so rampantly. Relocating them won't work for the same reason.

Also, they might have rabies. It is wise to relocate them to habitats far away from crowded areas.
