It only takes two doing this to cause a collision at an intersection. 'Jumping' red lights is a recipe for disaster.

If you can get the bus number, please report it.

... i seem to recall hearing on the news recently that bus drivers have immunity when it comes to driving violations -- they can't be held accountable. i guess the above infraction is what you'll see when a specific group has carte blanche to do whatever they want ...

This is traffic bullying. Let's put on a pink shirt for that too.

So if they get in an accident for running a red light, does ICBC blame the other guy?

I don't buy that. I know bus drivers are treated more leniently then others (benefit of the doubt) by the police, drivers themselves have told me this.
I was almost hit by a bus who was running a solid red light.

... no wonder pedestrians, cyclists and drivers are getting hit by buses in vancouver -- just look at the disgraceful quality of their driving skills in the video above!

Back in the early 90's, I almost got creamed by a trolley bus as I was cycling on the shoulder of Kingsway where it merges into Main, and then there is this railway crossing. At the time, the shoulder would come to an abrupt end so I had no choice but to either pull out into the road, or break hard and skid right into the railway tracks and end up doing a face plant into the tracks, as I was going too fast to stop in time, and the driver of the bus didn't give me any room. The asshole driver got out and shouted at me as he pushed my bike over. I should have gotten the number and reported him.

Liability is assigned the same way as any other vehicle. I don't know the nature of the insurance policies that Translink has on their vehicles. For organisations that have a large number of vehicles, they would get a fleet policy. For such a policy, the premiums are based on the claim record for the entire fleet and by the dollar amount of any at fault claims instead of the number of claims. If a fleet has at-fault claims that cost a lot of money, then the premiums for insuring the fleet goes up. If the amount of the at fault claims is low, then the fleet gets a discount.
