WTF!? Vancity Buzz

The entire site is click bait written by amateur bloggers who steal and repost content and photos from twitter and flickr for their own profit. Why is it so popular? Their articles are full of inaccuracies and are sorry excuses for journalism. Kudos to Karm Sumal and Manny Bahia for making a business out of other people's material. In every other industry it would be plagiarism.

 

They do well because of their social media presence. Their articles show up on facebook news feeds so the click bait model works for them. Yes, they monetize other people's content but the majority of people are naive to Vancity Buzz's business model so no one makes a fuss and no one demands a share of revenue. Most of the time, people are just happy to be featured on the site.

Their plagiarism is shameful but it makes them money. Can't blame them for doing it.

They spammed Wikipedia by inserting their links into articles as references. Unreputable amateur blogs such as Vancity Buzz are not appropriate as references for Wikipedia. What a joke!!! They tried creating a page for themselves but it was promptly deleted for lack of notability ha-ha!

How do they get away with blatant plagiarism?

In May 2014, Jeff Clowers plagiarized an article from Surrey Now by Amy Reid about food carts. They were called out on Twitter and the article was removed but no acknowledgement, explanation or apology was ever posted by Vancity Buzz.

You can't steal from bloggers, twitter and flickr and call yourself a reputable news source. The closest thing they do to journalism is copy press releases verbatim.

They posted a video of a mentally ill person with identifying information which is a huge no. As much as they try to paint themselves as a legit news outlet, the repeat instances of plagiarism, copyright infringement, ethical violations proves that they are an amateur clickbait blog with no journalistic integrity.

 

I know Karm personally and he's a dick. A giant scumbag who thinks he's a big shot. On a side note, I have friends who hire for the big media companies. They all look down on journalism grads who decide to write for blogs like Vancity Buzz. Be careful with your reputation. Not all exposure is good exposure when you're an aspiring journalist.

They are trigger happy with the delete and ban buttons on their site. Fuckers. Vancity Buzz makes Metro News look like the New York Times.
