Every christmas, my grandma would give our family a box of amazing mint chocolate squares from Lee's Candies :X3:. It came in slab form as everything was handmade the old fashioned way.

The original store was located at 4361 W 10th Ave in the Point Grey neighborhood. Unfortunately it burnt down and they never reopened. The owner Valeria Finnigan decided to retire. It's rumoured a condo developer started the fire because the site is now occupied by the Iron & Whyte building by Mosaic . There was another Lee's Candies on Main and 7th but I'm not sure if I'm misremembering.

I miss Lee's . My favourite were the mint chocolate squares, peanut brittle and almond brittle. It's just not christmas without it.

Thanks for sharing that story! I vaguely remember Lee's Candies.

I found this obituary of the original owner, George Tedlock.

I was thinking about Lees Chocolates tonight as was eating some Purdys, thinking back to those amazing mint squares and that beautiful tiny shop on West 10th. I came across this article from the Globe and Mail and thought it would be nice to include in this thread. As we near Valentines Day I will miss the solid chocolate heart shaped boxes filled with more chocolate that my mom would get for us every year. Thank you Lee's!

Thank you for this! I was just thinking about Lee's Chocolates for no apparent reason and had to look it up.The article provides great insight - I was a seasonal regular during the 80's and 90's. World class to be sure!
