This is the question: What does Vancouver mean to you? Tell it any way you like. Can be deep, can be simple. Just answer it! Also, please note that some of the answers might make it onto a new and upcoming blog!! The answers on the blog will not include names it will be strictly anonymous. Thanks!

I doubt that's unique to Vancouver... it's a pretty universal feature of humanity.

I was in Vancouver for the very first time in my life last November when it had its first major snowfall before the new year. I was with a co-worker and we got to see a few sites during the weekend: Stanley Park, the harbour, downtown, Gastown, Chinatown, Richmond-Steveston, Grouse Mountain, and Cypress Provincial Park.

The Vancouver area has land, water, mountains, trees and more trees all within close proximity to each other. You guys are lucky buggers!! :D

I have never been anywhere near Vancouver. But from all that I have heard and read, I draw the picture of a visually gorgeous and clean metropolis populated by cold and phoney people. It seems beset by obscenely high costs of real estate, and pock-marked by a few ethnic ghettoes like Surrey with undesirable ways imported into Canada.

The city of two seasons. The wet season from October to May and the dry season from June to September. The climate is very mild. It doesn't get too hot or cold.

... what does vancouver mean to me? growing up in a small, rural british columbia town, vancouver represented the big city where one went to 'make it.' and make it i did! unfortunately, once i made it, the snakes came out (hordes of money-hungry lawyers) and i was run out of town. as nice a city as vancouver appears to be, it's got a real, mean dark side to it they don't ever tell you about ...

"cold and phoney people" I think, to a certain degree, you'll find that element in any city. I sure did, having lived in half a dozen cities in N. America. You find ethnic diversity in every major city in N. America.

I found ethnic diversity in many major cities throughout the world.

That's human nature and a law of sociology. People in metropolitan and heavily populated areas tend to be more distant, while those in smaller communities tend to be warmer and more approachable. It's not just the West. When I visited family in New Delhi, India in 1998 I found Delhi folks cold and snobby. Go into rural India's villages and the people are so sweet and generous. Lifestyle and environment modify human nature.

Vancouver to me means childhood summers at White Rock Beach, excited visits to our stunning aquarium, and knowing when I'm away that I get to come home to this beautiful, diverse, interesting city. And food...Oh, the variety of food! A blessed city with so many rich cultures!
