Just in case you haven't heard, the radioactive fallout maps floating around the web are fake. They're troll maps from 4chan and conspiracy websites. Besides, doesn't potassium iodide only protect you against radioactive iodine?

I checked all over Battle Ground yesterday. No luck. In a pinch you can rub Betadine on arms and abdomen. Look for 2% iodine if possible.

And just in case YOU haven't heard, the NY times is reporting that the Ronald Regan air carrier hit a "radition cloud" in the Pacific ocean.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2011/03/14/world/asia/14plume.html?_r=1

They still claiming radation in N America is "slight risk"...but why not cover your bases if you can? Plus, I have 2 children under 40 mos and their tolerance for radiation is actually MUCH less than adults.

But I think just staying indoors should be enough...hopefully...

Yes there's a slight risk, but the media has people thinking that it's a full blown Chernobyl type event, not to mention the fake chain emails/texts going around. Stores and pharmacies are getting a ridiculous amount of calls from the public asking for anti-radiation meds. Some are even willing to pay hundreds of dollars to get them ordered in.

The crew members were exposed to very low levels of radiation and they decontaminated with plain soap and water. The ship and crew were downwind and in the vicinity of the explosion, so they weren't in the middle of the Pacific, they were close to the where the "action" is. At this point, unless something goes horribly wrong, any radiation leak will be local.

What ever, the air plume will come here and then we'll see. Better safe than sorry.
    There was two explosions.

Japanese gov't says that a melt down did happen. Maybe your news source is off. Sound like you were there and i bet you weren't.

I don't think you grasp what meltdown and explosion mean in the context of what they're talking about.

The radiation leak is not from the explosions, rather it's from planned manual venting to reduce pressure. TEPCO made a statement saying that they were going to do this. The explosions are thought to be (again, they can't be sure) due to hydrogen build up and ignition in the outer building.

They don't think the first two explosions breached the reactor vessel, radiation levels reflect that. There's been a third explosion recently where they don't know the fate of the reactor vessel, this is a cause for concern but mostly for those in Japan. Fear mongering never helps and western media is guilty of getting people riled up with nuclear buzz words.

I'm not saying that a nuclear disaster is impossible and I do think many people are downplaying the risks. However, the number of people blowing the situation out of proportion vastly outnumbers the skeptics.

  11. VANCOUVER - British Columbians spooked by their westerly proximity to ongoing explosions at Japan's quake-damaged nuclear plants are making a run on pharmacies, hoping to boost immunity to any potential radiation drift. But the provincial government, health officials and pharmacists themselves are encouraging people to stand down from stockpiling potassium iodide, saying no health risks exist.

B.C.'s Health Officer Dr. Perry Kendall issued a notice Monday saying it would take five to six days for winds to carry nuclear particles across the Pacific, and by that time any radiation would have dispersed into the atmosphere. "The consumption of iodide tablets is not a necessary precaution as there is no current risk of radiological I-131 exposure," Kendall said in the release. "Even if radiation from Japan ever made it to British Columbia, our prediction based on current information is that it would not pose any significant health risk." On Sunday, the B.C. minister for public safety also sent out a statement declaring the public need not fear exposure. Yet at the pharmacy where Alarcon works, people started making purchases in the form of purple-coloured liquid starting on Saturday, while a colleague at a Vancouver pharmacy told her they've run out of stock having received a dozen requests on Monday alone. Pharmacies have also been contacted by the health ministry advising them there is unwarranted alarm around the situation. If taken improperly, the compound could be a risk in itself, Alarcon added.

Health Canada, the B.C. Centre for Disease Control and international authorities continue to monitor events in Japan. "In the event that there is a significant release of radioactive iodine 131, the main impact would be on populations within the vicinity of the reactor in Japan," the ministry said.

pharmasave on 4th has some. i think they said they're selling for $45 for 30. delta prescription has some as well. $30 for 30 or around there.

i think this whole situation is being blown out of proportion, both ways. but the way i look at it, is that it's like life insurance, hopefully you never use it but its something to have.

Holy f%#$, are you all stupid or something?
Clearly you must all failed basic science because by the time it gets here it would be close to 1%. With the wind we have been getting lately, that's more than enough time for it to reach its half life. Goodness, it's not like you're living in Japan right now. We're in BC and the wind takes time to travel...holy eff.

Oh the stupidity, I hope you all drown in your KI and suffer the very extreme side-effects:
burning mouth/throat, sore teeth/gums, swelling inside the mouth, increased saliva, eye irritation/swollen eyelids, severe headache, swelling of the front of the neck/throat (goiter), signs of decreased thyroid gland function (e.g., weight gain, cold intolerance, slow/irregular heartbeat, constipation, unusual tiredness), confusion, numbness/tingling/pain/weakness of the hands/feet.Seek immediate medical attention if any of these rare but very serious side effects occur: chest pain, black stools, vomit that looks like coffee grounds, bloody diarrhea

Agreed, but how about you buy it LATER not now or why not EARLIER? Geez man, stop following all this scared bandwagon. There's people who actually need it, you all clearly don't.

there won't be any left later and you'll be left in the dust IF things get bad. with their track record, i do not trust what the Japanese govt has to say about the state of their nuclear plants.

    Hi everyone!

I am looking for a large quantity of interlocking lead bricks. They must be high grade and of at least 99.94% purity. I have a pick up trick so hopefully I can save on shipping costs. Let me know if you have a lead (har har).

I am constructing a nuclear shielded bomb shelter. I have some insider information from my mother's best friend's husband's cousin's boss who happens to be a former janitor at 3 Mile Island. I have it on good authority that shit is going to go down any day now so I want to be prepared.

The thing is, I don't want to handle the lead bricks (cancer and shit), so I'm looking to hire at least 5 fit guys to help me build the shelter. I have the blueprints all ready to go; found them online on wikileaks. I spent most of my money on potassium iodide pills and the rest has been exchanged for gold bullion. The gold has since been encased in a block of cement and buried. As a result, I cannot offer any payment, however, beer and pizza will be provided. If you are a student, I can be your reference for university, graduate/medical school, etc. :)

Give me a call at 604-876-5546 if you are interested.
