Noticed a company bulletin reminding Richmond drivers interested in changing depots to have their names on the appropriate Holding Lists. Might be some movement this month and again before the Spring sheet change in April.

If they increase bus service "South of the Fraser" like they are predicting; you might be out there sooner.

FYI: Noticing quite a few "Internal" (open to existing employees only) postings up with Coast Mountain Bus Company, looking for more Depot Coordinators; Transit Information Clerks, Lost Property Clerk, and even a rare Farebox Receipts posting.

Hello there, a couple of questions for Superchecker and anyone else who may have an opinion or answers to my questions.

First off I have been here before and have applied to CMBC three times now without success. My last time was back in March of 2015. I have made it to the panel stage twice and for reasons I can't explain have never gone beyond that particular point. I have years of dealing with the public before small groups of people and very large groups. I guess you could say I have been working with the public , in customer service and in another industry for years.

I would love to work as a driver for CMBC. The thought of getting out behind a desk and computer and in front of the public is something I would really enjoy. I also love to drive.

My questions as follows, before I have applied as a Conventional Driver. I was just about to try for The Community Shuttle position but noticed it is "part time". Anyone know what sort of hours you would be looking at? I can't really afford to work part time, but if it is generally 32 hours or something along those lines it just might work.

Second question, have you ever heard of someone actually being accepted on their fourth try? Maybe I am just wasting my time but I hope not.

I realize that a big hiring blitz is going on , the other times I applied perhaps there were just so many people to pick from or maybe I am just saying something they don't want to hear during those panel interviews.

I sure would like to give it another shot. Thanks for any insight.

    Hi Victor!

Sometimes those who *really* want to work here have the hardest time getting hired! Don't give up!

I never worked Shuttle but understand that they start out as either Part Time or even just Casual (temp's). Casuals must be available at least 2 days per week/4 days per pay period. "Temp" drivers earn an extra 14% in lieu of benefits.

FYI: Training classes run every 2 weeks; with like 12-16 new trainees every class.

I don't have any inside secrets as to making it thru other than customer service, and safety first.

Maybe if you have the time: Ride a few city routes and chat up the driver? Most are pretty talkative.

    Best of luck!

PS: Driving is NOT the only job opportunity. There is currently a posting for 5 Casual Depot Coordinators; The make MORE than drivers!

Thanks for the speedy reply Superchecker! I appreciate your input. Since I need to work more than just two days a week and know my current employer would not go for me MIA two days a week I will try for the Conventional Driver position, one more time.

Hopefully I will have success this time!

Good luck! Just keep trying. Makes me still wonder what kind of people they're looking for. By the time I retire, I probably still won't know lol...

I too had a thought about going shuttle the first time around, but then I thought to myself, go all in and go conventional. Never regretted making that decision.

    Hi Victor,

I understand your frustration because I failed first time when I applied for the job at the stage of panel interview and I made it at my second try. It's hard to tell what the company really wants, but there must be certain mindset an applicant needs to have to handle the job, I guess. So take the advice from Superchecker -- take rides and talk to drivers and you will probably get "interview answers" from conversations. Good luck!

I would like to add something about community shuttle. Yes you start out as casual but if you go in the ADP ( all day pool) you work 5 days a week. Then you can fill out a form requesting your interest in full time or part time positions. I've heard people getting on full time within three months! So don't rule out shuttle. A lot of ops start out as shuttle drivers and then move on to conventional so don't rule out shuttle!
