FYI: You'll be actually signing twice! Once for the two week period over Christmas, and then for the period from early January thru mid April! Best of luck!

Hi Guys! 2 points to mention: the posting for Conventional Transit Operator Trainees has come down, for now.

But, TransLink and the Mayor's council have approved the $2 Billion dollar transit expansion, and bus service should grow by 10% by 2018, meaning MORE buses and MORE drivers!

Hey guys just had a question, so I went in for my video test in July and passed got threw the new couple of steps. When I submitted my abstract I had one violation which in the last 3 years which was Nov 11th 2013, was told everything was good and I just finished my medical test on Monday...but some jerk vpd cop wrote me up for a ticket...I'm guessing I'll be disqualified from the process?

What was the infraction for ? Your previous infraction sounds like it fell outside the 3 year window so you would still qualify for the qualifications as long as the ticket you received is valued at 3 points or less. Do you recieve points the moment you get a ticket or not ? I don't even know . I'm pulling for ya.

    Week 3 update:

Hi everyone! This week was trolley driving. I'm getting more comfortable going through switches and the special works now. I only had a day of practice on the 60ft artic trolleys so I need more practice on that (especially doing turns). But otherwise, I don't find driving the 60ft that much harder than a 40ft. I kind of miss driving the diesels now, but who knows, maybe I might like trolleys more after training is over? Lol, I'll see how it goes.

Next week, I start picking up real passengers, and line training happens the following week! I also sign up later this week, which should be fun. :)

Question for the sign up, if you decide to holiday block, how many minutes do you get to sign?

At sign up they officially allow you 2 minutes per sheet; having said that there is a little leeway in actual practice.

Again; there is a sign up for the 2 week Christmas sheet; and THEN a separate sign up for the 16 week Winter sheet.

You could sign up for the first 2 weeks and then Holiday block the other 16?? Or Vise-versa.

If interested, and able, Working Dec 25 & Jan 1 brings triple time as they fall on Sundays! Double time for each shift worked, PLUS a days pay for each stat day.

I prefer the variety of Holiday Blocking, but am getting too senior! There are a few weeks where no one ahead of me is on vacation; so I have to pick for a junior Op who hasn't yet picked his shifts!

Also; at sign up: You can put your name on any Holding List if wanting to transfer out.

Thanks for the info! Do you still get only 2 min per sheet if you are holiday blocking? Having only 2 min to sign for 16 weeks seem rushed.

And one other thing about Holiday Blocking/Sign Up: You MUST have at least 8 hours rest from any evening finish to the next days start time. So if working later on a Sunday night and then starting earlier on a Monday you MUST make sure there is 8 hours rest before signing that Monday/next weeks work.

    hi guys ,

New to forum passed my test and have done with my interview on last Thursday. Any time line for the result as I have seen people who got selected got call on the same day or max next day , those who doesn't are usually rejected and get a dreaded mail that they have not been selected .
Any comments coz have gone through the single page in the forum

    Thanks

Fun! I'll reserve comment on the trolleys! lol

Holiday blockers are realistically given as much time as needed to do all their picks. As each week is chosen separately, it can take a bit. As long as no one is waiting directly behind you, you can take your time. This signup took me slightly less than 20 min but I also had to wait for the op in front of me to make his picks too (my classmate in shuttle who also moved to conventional).

It is the only way I will choose work now as it gives me the variety. It is more work and I suggest you do your homework the night or two before your pick but it is not a panic to have done in the 2 minute window.

Some exciting times coming Friday with the opening of the new Skytrain extension! Lots of new routes and updated routes, stops and loops and stations!

I expect some confusion as everyone figures out where they need to go (passengers and operators lol) but it looks great and it is going to be a spectacular addition to the Skytrain system!

Yes true. But the new stations will be serviced with modified stops until the new routes take effect... gong show time lol!

    Week 4 update:

Another week is over! This week was more trolley driving, and doing a part of a route each day while picking up actual customers. (fun!) :D I was used to picking up and dealing with customers while I was a Shuttle op, so this wasn't a huge transition to overcome. Boarding and securing a person in a wheelchair though was very easy (and fast) compared to in Shuttle. I also got to sign up this week, and I'm satisfied with the work I got. I'll be on the spareboard though for the December sheet as my class graduates after the sheet starts. I'm not too happy about that but it's only for two weeks, so it's not too bad.

Line training starts on Monday and lasts until next week, then it's final evaluation and graduation time. Almost there.

    Thanks for the updates!
I Holiday Blocked for the 2 weeks over Christmas; and then actually signed up for the 16 week Winter sheet. Got the days off I prefer and the bigger Sunday shift.

Already planning a Spring getaway; to celebrate my 20th anniversary!
