Groceries Sobeway - Safeway and Sobeys

Is it me or has Safeway gotten worse since Sobey's bought them? And that Compliments brand. Yuck! Why don't they just change the name to Sobey's now? They are already doing joint advertising.

I think they are slowly going to phase Safeway out and eventually it'll just be Sobey's. No more Safeway Select.

 

Believe it or not Safeway -or the Safeway name-has been around in BC about 100 years so they don't want to throw it all away quite yet.

But I have driven people from other parts of US & Canada in from YVR and they see that big Safeway sign in Marpole and either laugh or sigh loudly that brand is long gone in most places.

 

I remember reading in their flyer a few weeks ago about how they were going to be making some changes and that we could expect even more deals. At first I thought it was their way of saying they realize they need to be more competitive and it never hurts the consumer to have more choices. Well, it feels as if their prices become infinitely worse and let's be honest, they were never that great to begin with. In fact, just recently they were getting ripped to shreds on Twitter over how terrible their monday deal was. Noticed quite a few general complaints on Facebook as well.

In any case, I rarely shopped at Safeway to begin with and really only went there for their pharmacy + air miles (which they've done away with on prescriptions), but with everything going I think I'll be switching that as well.

 

That's what happened to me with the store on 4th Ave in Kits-there were a couple pharmacy managers who really ran the place well but they all left after a few years then Safeway hired some anti social shithead and I left vowing to never return and I kept my promise.

 

I used to like the Piggly Wiggly that was between Sasamat and Trimble. It has been gone since 1956.
