Wondering which retailer will move into the empty Target spaces? I heard Walmart? Hope it is. Would be nice especially for the mall locations like Metrotown and Coquitlam.

There are two Walmarts within a 15-minute drive from Metrotown already. Seems kind a close to have another one in Metrotown.

Doesn't matter, guarantee, it will still get a ton of business. People love Walmart, hands down. Target's failure was due to Walmart. Metrotown is the perfect location. Tons of new condos going up. Who wants to drive 15 min when you can cross the street. Tons of people work there in retail. Why drive 15 min when you can pick up that cheap toothpaste during lunch break.

Also, there isn't a store in the mall to compete with Superstore for cheap household items. They need a Walmart! Guarantee, it will be really, really busy! Metro also needs a cheap fruit/vegy market like the ones in other malls. Used to be one in the mall and it moved due to high rent. The place was crazy busy and so would any new one that went in.

Guess we will have to wait and see what goes in there.

Rumor has it that Walmart might move into Hillside Mall in Victoria, BC.

It would be nice, because I live near Hillside Mall, and currently it takes me 2 buses to get to the Walmart at Uptown or the Walmart in Westshore.

I don't know why they can't put a Walmart in every mall. I always hear replies like there is one 15 min away (as in this thread). But 15 min is not that close. Especially for a retailer that would guarantee to bring in high traffic. If I was opening a store in the mall, I'd want to be near Walmart.

They should put them in every mall like they do the Bay. I can't believe someone doesn't jump at the idea. Meanwhile they open up all they shops that do not bring in traffic. They end up closing shop after a while.

It's a large area so it has to be a store that could fill the area. I guess it will take some time before a retailer goes in there.

Oh, interesting! Would probably do well and bring in traffic to other stores in Metro.

The Target is now closed. Hopefully it doesn't take 6 months to bring a store in there.

Thanks - will wait and see

News reports that Canadian Tire is going to move into 12 vacant Target stores across Canada, including 3 here in BC....

These are the four BC locations:

    Driftwood Mall in Courtenay, B.C.
Tamarack Shopping Centre in Cranbrook, B.C.
Village Green Mall in Vernon, B.C.
    Hillside Centre in Victoria, B.C.

So the Metrotown Target store is still a mystery? Really hope they put a good store in there

Hopefully the new locations in lower mainland will have hot food and in-house bakery.

The Walmart store at Lougheed Mall is convenient as it is next to the skytrain station but they don't sell rotisserie chicken or french loaf.

I just found out that the one at Central City might become a Walmart.

I can't believe they are not moving into the Metrotown one! Busiest mall in the lower mainland. Major condo development in the next 5-7 years. Rent is probably too high. Glad they are going into the Coquitlam location though.

The store is still sitting empty months after Target close.

Rent is probably too high at Metrotown.

There is a Halloween costumes & accessories store in that space now. It's not a permanent store though.

Still no takers! We saw a few large area stores empty. Yes, the rent must be extremely high.
