Help with Tax Software

Does anyone know an easy simple software program to buy for taxes?

    I have the following slips:
    T4
    T5
    RRSP

Best buy has Ufile and Turbo tax, but I'm not sure which version to get. Think I need the Standard version for Turbo tax (for the T5). Not sure which version I need for the Ufile.

    Any help is appreciated.

Any of the basic versions will be adequate in your case, including free products.

For free options, SimpleTax is amazingly easy to use and by donation.
StudioTax is tried and true as well but a bit more old school. You're more likely to miss a credit or a form if you're not familiar.

I've used UFile and Turbotax too and they both work well. My preference is Turbotax which used to be called Quicktax. Remember, they are free if you're a student or low income. I would say that the paid products do more hand holding and will pick up little tax credits you might miss but for simple tax situations it's unlikely to be an issue.

    Thanks for the info!

My only problem is I have a T5. There are different versions you can get for free or buy. Turbo Tax has a free version (which I can't use because of the T5), Standard version or Premier version. One site says the Standard is the one to get for T5s while another link says the Premier version (which is more expensive) is the version. So confused which to get.

Also there are different versions for Ufile. Which one do I get if I have a T5?

I don't want to buy the wrong version only to discover it doesn't work. Then I'll need to buy another version.

    Any info is appreciated!

For the online version of Turbotax, you need the Standard version. For the download or CD copy of Turbotax, you can actually input any forms with any of the versions. The difference between the versions is the "guided interview" part. So if you're not comfortable with where to put in the T5 information, get the Standard version. The Premier version is for guidance with more complicated investments.

For UFile, the main difference is online versus download or CD copy. The difference between the Pro and Windows version is that they allow you to file more tax returns. There product is the same.

With that said, if your T5 is just interest from a savings account. SimpleTax (free!) may be more than enough if you're comfortable with inputting the forms. If you want to stick with paid options, I personally liked Turbotax more than UFile in terms of ease of use.

Thanks so very much! Great info! Very helpful.

I'm leaning towards the Standard Version of the Turbo Tax. I don't mind paying $20.00 if it means it's easier to use.

    Really appreciate your reply!
