I tried to vote that homes taxes are unfair but the system doesn't allow Me, This morning I was thinking the same thing, I see Our honourable politicians taking expensive vacations with lavishing luxury, is this what is called embellishment? politicians are not exactly demanding when some of them expended more than a lot, they tend to forgive to be forgiven

West Van has the lowest taxes in the country. The taxes on a $900,000 home in Toronto are almost $10,000, In Saskatoon they are over $10,000. By any metric in Canada $5000 a year for a $900,000 home is far below the average.

Worry Resident, I feel your pain. We all feel the pinch of taxes, cost of living increases and a diminishing dollar.

    It's brutal.

I've got no dependents, I'm single & I'm planning to leave Canada within the next 5 years.

Though I was born here, I feel there's nothing in this place for me. 'NotCanada.com' isn't just for those who immigrated here, but the Canadian-born as well (notcanada.com was shut down, so all that's left are excerpts and YouTube videos).

    https://www.justlanded.com/english/Canada/Forums/Jobs/Visit-wwwNotCanadacom

    An excerpt:

    7. Out Of Control Cost Of Living.
From rent, to utility bills, to shopping, to phone, internet and cable bills, to gas, to car insurance, to eating out, to basically anything you have to pay for or buy, the cost of living in Canada has become astronomical. Recent immigrants are astonished as to how expensive everything is. It is estimated that compared to most countries around the world, the cost of living in Canada is on average five times greater.

    5. Very High Taxes.
Yes, you have the GST, the PST, totaling 15%, on practically everything you purchase and many other taxes taken out of our weekly paycheck. You have to pay a whopping amount to the government, out of your hard earned salary, so that the government can turn around and give it to beer drinking, hockey watching welfare bums. Fair? It does not matter, it's Canada.

Our governments don't care, our employers don't care about us, the nation is being sold out to foreigners.

Perhaps enough of us decide we're going to vote with our feet & desert the place, the government will finally wake up, listen & do something about it.

Yes, there are greener pastures out there & many of us are in the process fleeing this place and flocking to them instead.

... yeah, you raise an interesting point there, Bine ...

... i was talking to a relative over the holidays who owns a condo in west van and the subject of property taxes came up and i asked her how much she pays. to my extreme surprise it was next to nothing, a very negligible amount. on the other hand, my friend who owns a condo in new west pays about six times she does. property taxes are totally arbitrary and make no sense whatsoever!

... and have you noticed how it's totally taboo for the subject to be discussed in the news media? they talk about most every other tax, but they dance around the property tax issue like these fees don't even exist. this is a telltale sign that property taxes are a major problem. the government and the news media always try to cover up the serious stuff ...

Actually I have never had an issue with property tax (and it is lower than Ontario). With property tax I am getting a service .. like roads, schools, garbage collection, libraries, parks, rec centers etc.

However I think income tax should be abolished. I received no service from the government when I did my job. I personally believe we should increase service charges and reduce taxes. A compulsory tax should only be charged for 2 things .. national security and free healthcare. The rest of the money should be got from services e.g. increase passport/ticket costs to cover all airport expenditures, increase license/transit costs to cover road expenditures .. however don't charge me income tax. I should have the option to decide what services I want to pay for (except national security and healthcare).

... is that right? are those services actually listed on your bill as what you're paying for? because they list a whole bunch of services on my bill, but most of these so-called services aren't services at all and the one or two that are services i don't use ...

... in fact, my property tax bill is so horrid i consider it a "hate" tax. it's the crown overtly displaying it's bald-faced animus for property owners ....

@the mechanic the crown = federal government. Property tax is municipal.

    How am I being ignorant?

    Crown
The Crown plays a key role in Canada's parliamentary system of government. All executive authority is understood to derive from the Sovereign, who is Canada's formal head of state. The state is embodied in the Sovereign; therefore every one of Canada's Members of Parliament is required to swear allegiance to the Queen. This is also why the state, in Canada, is often referred to simply as "the Crown".

Canada is, however, a constitutional monarchy, founded on the rule of law and respect for rights and freedoms, and the Sovereign actually retains very few powers and prerogatives. The authority of the Crown is delegated to the various branches of government according to the provisions of the Constitution.

Elections are called and laws are enacted in the name of the Crown. No bill may become law without Royal Assent. Formally, the Prime Minister and the Cabinet are the Crown's council of advisers. They govern in the name and with the consent of the Crown. The Sovereign is represented in Canada by the Governor General.

    For most people:
If your property is located in a city, town, district or village, it is in a municipality. When you own property in a municipality, you will receive your property tax notice from your municipality. You pay your property taxes to your municipal office.

    Exceptions are:
Rural land you pay property tax to the province.
Treaty and reserve land where you pay property tax to First Nation

    Property Taxes pay for:

    Police and fire protection
    Emergency rescue services
    Road construction and maintenance
    Garbage services
    Recreation and community centres
    Parks
    Libraries
    Schools
    Hospitals

  11. Hi folks:
I just received My Property BC assessment, is not nice, You all know that this fictitous and escandalous inflated property value is a mechanics between Your unfriendly Government and the Real State Companies.
Please send to You MLA and Your Parliamentary representative a link to this thread so they can see first hand the anguish of residents living segregated by the public administrators who were entrusted with Our vote, Please keep in mind that We are all in this together even if You don't Own a house at the present time, but if We don't defeat this abusive system of imposing ridiculously high and exaggerated taxes not only on Our property but everything is going up under the corrupted mercenaries that every single branch of government has become, demand an audit and start Your engines Ladies and Gentlemen and start chopping the abusive elements of Our Society let the corrupted fall!
We are Exploited and Deceived United.

considering that before We paid taxes based on the purchase value of Our homes and now We pay under a fictitious vale, You most certainly are paying to the crown because those useless royal parasites demand more and ore for their lavishing lives.

  13. I can't believe that some in this forum voted against BC Residents, it has to be someone who want to pay Our property taxes, so I say to You who voted in favour of property taxes, Pay for all and show how honest You are voicing You attack on residents. You like taxes? Pay them all! I will send You My property taxes when they come this year.

Come on folks send a link to this thread to Your MLA si simple just copy and paste.

  14. Every time taxes increase in general, politicians increase their salary, I had sent this thread to My MLA, and also sent it to the Parliament in Victoria with a copy to Human Lies. (former known as Human Rights)

Liberals in this Province are the public enemy number one, including TransLink.

  15. I tried to vote too but We are no allowed as guest (I think) but I'l say taxes are an imposition to force You to leave Your House, taxes where invented by a group of criminals organized as politicians this way they make legal to disposes You of Your property, some don't see this as such but this is the sad reality, is like if You allow someone to steal from You in the street.

  16. Added to this plan to take Our homes, the real state companies pass huge commissions to a particular Mayor who is willing to increase taxes and motivate residents to sell, and with the lower interest rates home prices are going up folks! this taxes based in a fictitious market value are going to the moon, so brace yourselves or fight this unjustiafiable property taxes! the alternative is not nice, You can end up in the street wet and cold, property taxes are inhumane and cruel, property taxes take the basic right of individuals to have a home, a well organized administration has to be accountable to the voters and should get the best deal with providers of municipal services for residents, this is why We ask for an audit!

... yeah, the bc government's property tax scam is an unmitigated disgrace!

... this year i found out i'm paying almost TWENTY TIMES (!!!) what my neighbor is paying, yet my property is only assessed at about three times the value of his. as well, i learned that his property assessment went down considerably this year while mine actually increased! is the bc government on drugs or something???

  18. I think You should bring this to the attention of Your community and compare with them Your taxes, This way You will have a strong argument against the government.
    Good Luck to You!

... i'm willing to bet that NONE of those who voted that property taxes are fair actually pay property tax. i think you should actually be a property tax payer in order to vote in the poll. and THEN we'll see what the vote count is!
