We are very frustrated and extremely disappointed with Telus and the way they mislead people and promise the service they are not able to provide.

10 days ago we switched from Shaw (cable) and Primus (phone line) to TELUS.

When I called in to request some info I got soooo many promises e.g. better rate for a bundle (phone & cable), 1 month complimentary channels package, lower rate for TV for 6 months, 2 PVR boxes for free (upon 3-y. agreement), chance to record 2 HD at the same time, etc. etc.

So we decided to go ahead with Telus.

Once their technician installed the cable (which actually took 4 hrs!), the phone went dead.

Then, another technician came over to fix it. (fyi: we were w/out phone for 4 days!).

Next, the cable crashed the very next day (fyi: we were w/out TV for 2 days).
On that second day, another technician came over (working in our suite for a couple of hrs), however w/out success.
He recommended requesting a Specialist to our suite.

So, the Specialist came over and found out that we have a multiple phone lines (somebody made an error). It took him a couple of hrs to fix it and here is his conclusion:
as we live in Yaletown where NOVUS is the main cable/internet provider, they (Telus) have not enough ‘power’ to provide the HD system to our suite (or our building) so what we are getting now is that we can watch just 1 HD program and on our other TV we watch the regular one (no HD). Even though we have 2 PVR boxes, we can record only l HD program and at the same time we are allowed to watch a regular (no HD) program.

    So we are totally screwed.
Obviously, we don’t want to beg Shaw and Primus to take us back, and on other side we're not getting or gaining anything just a headache from Telus.

So before hooking up with Telus - pls be aware and do your homework!!!!

FWIW, you can probably use that as a way out of your contract, plus don't you have a set number of days to back out?

Go with one of the $10/10/10 Novus packages if you don't want to go back to Shaw and Primus. A lot of people would kill to be able to go with Novus.

i am still not sure if i want go with telus even though they offered me a good deal for the first year as a compensation for my inconvenience.

what i am afraid of is to sign a 3-year contract and then after a year, if they are not able to resolve the existing HD stream in my area (yaletown) i will be paying exactly what everyone else does (even though i won't be getting the same fair service).

i hooked up to tv optik on april 10 and ever since never been satisfied.
i really hope that if i call now and cancel my tv service with them they won't charge me the fee for breaking up the contract (i hope i have 30 days to make my mind - anybody can correct???)

It might be 15 days. With cell phones they also have an "or 30 minutes of use" clause, don't know if that applies to Optik. Don't sign a 3 year contract, there are fantastic deals that only require 1 year contracts. Incentives are offered from time to time by both Novus and Telus because the condo segment of the market is competitive. If you're locked in, you miss out on these promos.

I had the same problem and was released from my contract because of a false advertising claim. I have much more info if you like.

Thanks for posting this. I have a tentative set up for Telus next week, with Shaw and Primus right now.......I am feeling uneasy about the switch....not sure it will save me money.
