... i don't care how dazzlingly beautiful a transsexual appears to be, i will NEVER accept a transgendered man as female, not matter how hot the person might look. i bring this up because of the entertainment industry's recent decisions to include transsexuals in female beauty pageants and as models ...

... am i wrong? should i see a transgendered man as a woman? what do you think?

    ... comments?

    I'm all for it.

Deconstruct the idea into 2 concepts:
    1. Sex - Biology (more complicated than you think because there are conditions where you are genetically male but have female genitalia and appearance)
    2. Gender - Identity

Most people have a match between their sex and gender. Some people don't.

I think a lot of transgendered are ok with calling themselves a " trans-man or trans- woman."

Everyone has the right to feel they present their genuine selves to the world. It is the right to be authentic.

I respect their legal status as female, but would never date or marry one. Just as I defend the right of gay people to marry, but I myself would never do the gay thing. Live and let live.

I always thought transgendered meant those who did not want to identify with the sex they were born as.

I've done some healthcare work with the trans* community and discovered that Vancouver Coastal Health has recently put out an excellent resource: http://transhealth.vch.ca/trans-101/gender-identity. It goes into sex vs gender vs orientation. Gender identity vs gender expression. It's something that should really be taught in school but I suppose there'd be a lot of push back from parents.

Recently, the trans* community has successfully lobbied VSB to drop gender markers on report cards and secondary school GoCards. Homophobia and bullying policies have also been expanded to be more inclusive.

This was the public consultation that the school board did:

A " Trans-man" is someone who was born a biological female and has transitioned to male. Same for a " trans-woman" a person born a biological male who transitioned to female. So to the original poster, your question should be: do some people think a transgendered man ie a " trans- man" is a man? And yeah, some people do consider them male. However, even some Transgendered people consider themselves to be a " Trans-man or a Trans-woman", if you want to get technical.
