I think technically we are 2 different companies and you'd have to start fresh with BC Transit. Same pension plan though... Same Union (in Victoria), just a different local too.

    INTERESTING DAY out there!

CMBC runs 2 buses per odd hour ferry. One bus broke down today at Bridgeport and missed a round trip. So the other bus did as best I could with only one bus. Completely packed coming north from the ferry. Passed up probably 20-30 people, including the construction workers at the new mall in Tsawwassen too. 2 hour wait til next bus in Fall-Winter! Ended up quite late, and had an issue on board that required attention too. God, I hate extra paperwork.

Saw Training Buses out on Hwy 99 again today!

Still HUGE amounts of OT; half dozen buses not getting out in the morning rush hours.

Hey super checker!! To answer some of your questions: right now I'm working three days a week, but that is by choice. It's seems I get more work on the weekends then during the week. I'm gradually making myself available for more days. I'm doing nights right now because without a car I can't do 3 or 4am starts. Once I get my car( hopefully this weekend yay!!) I will put in for the ADP. I'm working strictly out of Hamilton, but may venture out and do some Surrey runs. I prefer to work nights. Less traffic and fewer passengers. I like the quiet. Things I like the least about shuttle are the 24 passenger max thing, and telling people we are full and to catch the next one. Especially doing the C23 that happens a lot. Also using the lift for wheelchairs and strollers and using the restraints to secure them in always puts you behind. Also as a shuttle op we don't get travel pay nor do we get time and a half for working Sunday's which I don't think is fair at all! I also don't like not knowing where I'll be working until the day before but other than that I really enjoy driving. It's WAY better than cleaning up after people and scrubbing toilets!!! I'm thinking of going for conventional next year but I'm not totally sure yet. I really don't know anyone yet except the ones I meet when I take over for them or the ones I talk to on our Facebook page, everyone seems really nice and friendly and I love how everybody waves to me when I'm waiting at a bus stop or walking down the street in my uniform.

Hey, Thanks for the reply! And glad things are working out for you!

Hamilton is all new and still getting settled in, but I'm sure you will have a social club set up ASAP. Contributing each payday is voluntary. It's either $2 a pay or $4 a pay, can't remember. They organize payday BBQ's; seasonal Pub nights; Soccerfest every summer; Hockey every winter; Christmas stuff too.

I think Shuttle still has their annual bus rodeo? Conventional has stopped doing their's.

As for Facebook: There are a number of bus driver groups including the unions Local 111 group, and also "True Transit" started by a RTC Op. I'm not the most active on Facebook but am on there too.

And that invitation still stands: If you ever want to come on out for a ride on a Conventional/Richmond usually "morning" shift, just message me anytime.

If I can offer one bit of advice: Get that driver seniority number ASAP! T-H-E-N- you are starting to gain some seniority!

The social club is getting underway as we speak at HTC. The other depots also have their own as well!

The Shuttle ROADeo (chuckle) did go ahead this year. I don't know the status for next year though.

Closed Facebook groups are out there for ops of most of the depots, including HTC now if you're not on it.

And I bolded the part above that is extremely important if you're looking to a long-term career. 100% agree with @Superchecker on this. Things start to move a lot more quickly when you do to be sure to look for those open Shuttle rosters and apply for what works for you!

And Conventional is a great next step! Exactly the same but bigger!!!

    Have a good one!

Crazy. I've heard the same at Poco? The lines at Lougheed Station around 6pm for the 97 and some of the other Coq buses have been nuts lately!

The 24 passenger thing was always a challenge. But in the big picture there's not much you can do but smile and wave. The lift was also tough at first, but eventually you get pretty quick it it. I could load/unload in 2 min (provided it all went smoothly) with the lift before I stopped driving shuttle.

I for one am glad to hear driving buses is better that cleaning toilets lol! To hear some talk, you would think otherwise!!!

That last part is fun. Almost always, we'll get a wave or whatever. Most times when you're driving you'll get a wave too. I wave, thumbs up, peace sign, hang-loose or rock-on, with an odd salute, toot of the horn or one flash of the indicator (when it's too dark for all of the above) to fill in the gaps lol - conventional OR shuttle - I'm easy haha!

It IS a little strange however when I acknowledge an op from a different depot and get NADA! Snobs

    Crazy day in Richmond today!

It's my day off, but just glanced at the overnight assignment for today; 4 available spareboard Operators and about 15 Indexes to cover????

The depot staff will have a fun time trying cover everything tonight, and I'm willing to bet some later buses don't get covered.

    Question for Senior Operators/RE-hire;

I resigned my post almost 2 years ago to travel and try something new. I have come back recently, and Im trying to re-apply. I already applied online on the most recent job posting. What is the procedure like for former operators, and what step should I do?
I truly appreciate if you guys can give me some advice and information.

    Thank you

I think you have to start from square one, just like all the other applicants.

They used to re-hire quite readily, but I'm not sure how they treat returning applicants now?

Best of luck! Driving is NOT the only opportunity to get your foot back in the door...

    Re: Halloween

If any interest in going to a union Halloween Party/social on Oct 28: check out Unifor Local 111's Facebook page for details. $12 in advance/$15 at the door.

And, as for Halloween: Be aware that transit is a target for some out there. Fireworks, or even rotten eggs. Be aware of your surroundings on Halloween weekend. Most people are great but of course there are always a few out there looking for more. Keep your windows closed, especially after dark.

    Hi Aloha,

I first applied online at the start of June 2016. Had the comprehension test on the 20th of July and then the panel interview mid August. The HR staff are checking my references at the moment. They have one more reference to go through, then the medical exam. Hoping to get called for that soon. Hope it works out for you mate, I think you can follow up with HR. Best check it out, and ask Superchecker or conventional man for advice. They really know there stuff.

I was told to start my training on October 24th. Just want to show my gratitude to everyone here since I do get a lot of useful info and it is very helpful to pretty much every step of the process.
