Crazy times at RTC... Still so so much overtime. Worked 4 hours OT again yesterday, and am looking at 4 to 6 hours on my own relief this afternoon.

Talked to a yard guy last night and RTC is loosing 60 buses this weekend. Our beloved (Lol!) 3200's and 3300's are going to Hamilton as well as most of our 7300's too. And of course the 25 artics to VTC to do the 49's.

Yeah we get your hand-me-downs at HTC, but we also get 50 hybrid Novas, and a bunch of 14000 CNGs, and don't forget the brand new 16000 CNGs (like your new diesels) coming in the next few months ;) lol

Seriously, if those older buses are close to retirement, it makes sense to send them to HTC as they can just be rotated out as the new ones arrive.

Have a great time on your time off!

It's really not fair how everybody but Shuttle ops get time and a half on Sunday's.
Also I ran over a kitty cat yesterday out in Richmond. I was so sick to my stomach and so upset, luckily it was my last run.

Well it's the first day of the new sheet and a lot of big changes, including the new Hamilton Transit Centre! I start the new sheet tomorrow on the 410. New to me and looking forward to it!

Good luck out there to everyone in their new homes and be safe!

Hi guys. Can anyone tell me how hard it is for a new hire to get a night shift after like a month?

You can try and pick your shift daily when you are on the spare board, and then we pick our own shifts 4 times a year. It's all seniority based. I worked both rush hours for years to avoid nights.

From recent experience, you should have NO problem working nights if you want them. There always seemed to be plenty of late work available when I was at VTC, BTC and now HTC.

Only if you're not picky about days off, and how much they pay for the work at VTC

I switched to nights and don't think I'll look back at day side again lol.

Fair point highlighted... me, I don't care about days off, just start/finish times. Pay comes in time.

And agreed on switching to evenings/nights. Just so much less going on to stress your day!

hello superchecker-do you know if you get hired on as a casual for the customer information clerk position that you will be getting hours and how long it would take to get a permanent position?
    Thanks

Can anyone here tell me what to expect in the medical check for the Bus Operator, especially the functional assessment? Thanks a bunch

    Really, it's pretty basic...

I think there were 5 sit-ups, some coordination tasks (taking bolts from one set of holes and putting them back in a different set, timed), picking up a weight (5 or 10 lbs I think). Hearing test, sight test.

Nothing scary. Except for the prostate check...

HAHAHA glad you caught the joke ;) I was worried about someone taking that seriously.

I'd better make it clear, there is no prostate check (although I seem to remember peeing in a cup). The sit-ups for me were bad enough!

Does the doctor hold your feet or your knees when doing sit-ups?

If I recall, there is a small bar or something to hook your feet under. It literally took a few seconds so I'm a little hazy on the memory lol.

Maybe someone who has done it more recently can chime in?

So, we're in to our first full week of the new sheet! How's it going out there for all the new ops? Lots of fresh faces lately!

I can tell that some pretty major adjustments will have to be made to some of the runs and run times. Hopefully sooner than later. A combination of a new depot with unknowns in NIS times to and from terminii and new drivers to certain routes, certainly caused some fun times last week. I thought it was setling a bit by Friday, but again yesterday, by the time I got back to 22nd on my first run on the 410, I was -14. So much traffic on No 3 Rd. Yikes!

Enjoy the weather this week and always keep the rubber side down!
