    Welcome to the Real World

Guess what? Many of us are in the same boat as you.

I've given up on ever owning anything in Vancouver, so I've decided to eventually move out. There are some high points about Vancouver, but its simply not worth the bother of paying $500,000 for a 1 BR apartment in DT. Especially when Real Estate is much cheaper in places like the US. If your not just trolling, but really are an MD, you ought to look at moving out of this city, where the incomes are higher and the RE cheaper. Why not consider a 5 yr stint in a place like Duhbai? Save up a shitload of money with little tax having your rent paid for, your debts paid off. Then buy somewhere else.Anyways, its unlikely I'll stay much longer in Vancouver. The land has been horded by greedy offshore investors & the government in power has done nothing to build affordable housing, and especially rentals. They've intentionally created this so called 'shortage' to keep their developer friends happy & the prices keep going up and up. The government could build more affordable housing, but they choose not to. They cater to and are beholden to their developer friends.

Those montly apartment rentals for NY are about the same as or cheaper than downtown Vancouver. Except that the salaries in NY are a lot higher. No wonder that Vancouver residents are so stressed. They're paying as much as NY residents but with far lower incomes.
