It consists of 3 stages or steps.

1st step they're gonna check your hear rate, blood pressure, breathing capabilities, inside of your ears....as if you were going for doctor's check up.

2nd step is where you do your visual test, hearing test, and providing a urine sample.

3rd step is where all the physical assessments happen. They're just testing on range of motion as well as strength.

Day 3 of class now, and god damn a lot of information to absorb for air brakes, and currently practicing on how to do the pre trip inspection as well as testing the air brakes. Lots of home work, reading, and watching videos.
Drove a Nova Hybrid today around the east Vancouver, doing parts of the 41st bus route, and parts of 26 route, learning how to make right turns and left turns.

Fun times happening! Enjoy it! Don't let it stress you out and you'll be fine! Tomorrow I'm doing some work on a 106, a 112 and 129. I'll try to harass ya if I see you guys out there! :)

On a side note, a bunch - and I mean a BUNCH - of brand new operators have just arrived at Burnaby Depot as we needed more drivers.

Handydart is much tougher than conventional bus. Its more like a cab/bus cos were door to door. Class 4 unrestricted is needed aswell.

As confirmed from my instructor, there was a class that just recently graduated.

Everyone from that class got transferred to BTC.

Would suck to be them, Just out of class and shoved to a city with no Trolleys. Only to find them selves in the near future bumped right back to Vancouver later and have no clue how to drive Trolleys.

Happens 2-3 times a year. A few summers in a row whole classes were forced out to North Van. Most likely will be forced back to Vancouver next September (Next System wide Sigh Up) BUT then you put your name on the HOLDING LISTS and get sent back out within a month or two.

Also, from what who I've been talking to. The BTC is one of the senior depots .

Used to be that Surrey was the hardest one to get out to. Not so much anymore.

For those who don't know: The depots are: Vancouver (Marpole); Burnaby; North Van; Port Coquitlam; Richmond and Surrey. Oakridge is for Community Shuttle.

The plan for Sept 2016 is to CLOSE North Van; Move North Van buses into Burnaby; move 1/2 of Burnaby's existing work to a new "Hamilton" depot being built at Westminster Hwy and Boundary Road.

Also Oakridge is finally set to close too, with Shuttle also moving to Hamilton depot at some point too.

Then major changes out in PoCo as Evergreen Line comes online in a year or so as well.

If they move half of BTC's stuff over to Hamilton, then wouldn't it be for sure only HIGH seniors able to keep their spots in BTC.

It will be interesting to say the least. Who will jump to Hamilton? What work will Hamilton take from other depots? Is Richmond loosing as much as the rumours say? (#104, 410, 430 & 49's).

What happens to the N Van drivers? Just because their work goes to Burnaby doesn't mean they will all go to Burnaby?

It is day 7 now of training, the instructors have been very helpful through the process. Definitely more comfortable driving the Nova's around the city. We did the 15/50 route, lots of off track and challenges and then driving through the Granville strip for the first time. I think pedestrians and cyclists need a license to walk and cycle! Only in a perfect world LOL....

@Fairbox , if TransLink is trying to push everything for fast hiring process, expect your next phone call tomorrow or beginning of next week. I start poking around at the instructors to see if there are any classes coming up.

All I know is class 21 starts on December 2nd.

Actually in my case I would have the preference of staying in Vancouver, being on the spare board, and utilizing the time at work to gain my experience.

Class 18 will be graduating this coming Monday. They're pretty thrilled as I spoke to a few of them.

Majority of that class are ex shuttle drivers.

Actually it may or may not be that bad... I graduated in March and am signing stuff at BTC that is decent and works for me. Plus with the changes next year...who knows????

But I, for one, am happy to never drive a trolley again! lol

It's day 9 and it was road test day!

11 out of 12 people passed the road test, hopefully my classmate will pass it with flying colors tomorrow.

    Looking forward to trolley training.

If anyone is looking for a more in depth post, let me know or just look at @ConventionalMan posts a few pages back!
