    Hi supercheker,

what type of license would they require to drive a community shuttle bus? would a class 4 unrestricted learners be enough for training?

Hey everyone just an update on myself and hopefully it will give others a better idea on what is to be expected.

I'm currently in training for Conventional and it's pretty fast passed. You're expected to be able to operate a 40' on public roads/downtown within the first week! I did not expect that. I always thought trainees practice in a parking lot and drive around cones etc hahaha...totally not the case.

My only tip so far....know your pre-trips inside and out as soon as you can to stay ahead of the game.

And make sure when your instructors say "make room for yourself on a right turn"....you better make yourself room

Congrats! I'm sure if you had gone back and read the posts from the beginning there have been posts stating on what to expect in training...

Recently noticed a company bulletin looking for volunteers to switch to suburban depots... If not enough volunteers, they'll force from the bottom of the list in Vancouver...

After training, you'll be on the spareboard in Vancouver until Labour Day sheet change. You'll get to sign up for September mid August sometime...

Have fun! Stay cool/hydrated! Training can be intense but also the best time too!

Way to go! I mentioned in my weekly updates a few months ago about driving a bus "out on the streets" on the first day a few months back... it can certainly be a bit intimidating for sure. Good news is, the bus starts feeling smaller and smaller as the days and weeks go by, to the point of just being another vehicle to drive. Your cornering and maneuvering become second nature... It's all good and you're going to love it! Just wait for trolleys and artics. That's when the fun really starts!

And yes, take your time and take your share of 2 lanes on your turns always. I very nearly knocked over a light pole one day a few weeks ago when I didn't... talk about a wake-up call!

How many weeks in are you? Anyway, good luck and be safe out there!

Just jumping in here... If you get called for training they will let you know for sure but from what I recall, when I originally trained in Shuttle, it was indeed a Class 4 Unrestricted.

I should have clarified... Yes these are the requirements when applying but you do eventually need a Class 4 unrestricted licence. Again, they'll let you know when to obtain it!

I have a video test for community shuttle trainee coming up. What do people wear to these things? Polo/jeans okay? since it's not really a formal interview? I don't want to wear a shirt and tie since it's so damn hot and I'm not going for an office job...

On a side note: City of North Vancouver looking for AUXILIARY Labourers at $23.36 an hour; & Truck Drivers at $28.58 an hour; PLUS an extra 12% in lieu of benefits!

I'm going too! I failed the video test once such tricky questions it felt like a game of chance....I really wanna pass that this time. You can wear casual because last time I went it looked like a lot of people just woke up with pajamas so even dressing casual was standing out. But dress for the interview for sure if you get there.

When answering the questions, just think about
what is safest. Think safety first and you both should do alright. I based all my answers on this and passed twice.

You can wear whatever you want. Its not an interview, just a written test. They wont be looking at what you are wearing.
