... what's your opinion on the abortion debate? is it morally acceptable to kill unborn children while still in the fetus stage? i've heard that in some european countries children can be aborted up to three years of age!!!

... are you in favor of or against a woman's right to have an abortion?

    ... comments?

A while ago I had the opportunity to help out with surgical abortions from early to late. Many were teens and young adults not ready for a baby. Others were couples who found out their baby had genetic defects.

Prior to that experience, I was 100% for abortion. After, I am still for abortion but heavily emphasize education and contraception first as a preventive measure. Sex education and access to condoms, birth control, IUDs, Plan B (Morning After Pill) etc. are essential.

In Canada, there is no law specifying when abortion becomes illegal but you won't find a facility that will go beyond 24 weeks for moral and ethical reasons.

Many people imagine abortion to be a clean procedure where the embryo or fetus is simply sucked up with a vacuum. While this is more or less the case in early abortions, I found late abortions very gruesome to watch. They inject a solution into the fetus to stop it's heart 1 day prior. During the procedure itself, they use metal tongs to rip apart the fetus' limbs and torso which are already well formed. The skull gets crushed and you see white brain matter oozing out of the vagina.

If you want to see this for yourself, there are some videos online:

Man even after being educated about abortion, that was a very gruesome video to watch.

EDIT: Forgot to add my opinion..

I am for abortion but only before 12 months...

... it's hard for me to form a deep-felt opinion about something so foreign in the sense that i'm a man and would never have to deal with such a thing. but if a woman wants to terminate her baby it's really no concern of mine. so my response is i don't care either way, nor should i since it's really none of my business ...

... plus, is a human life really THAT sacred? other animals are killed with abandon on a mass scale and there's very little outcry about it. is a human life really that precious? i dont' think so ...

Before the fetus has developed a brain, okay. But once it has consciousness and the ability to feel pain, it would be murder. And I totally agree that abortion should be used as a last resort, not casually. Same thing as a doctor using other treatments before being forced to do invasive surgery.

I defend a woman's right to determine her own body. But abortion is an extreme measure, not a casual thing.

My thoughts are yes before the heartbeat, so I guess before 4 weeks? At the end of the day, it's the person's choice and as long as for next time they are practicing safe sex. Abortion should never be used as a Plan A because you were too lazy to go buy a condom.
