Hons is now owned by the Joe family.

I knew they were having some financial difficulty a few years ago with lots of locations closing and facing bankruptcy. Tons of speculation why including tax evasion, gambling, stock market crash, kids running the business into the ground etc. Apparently a lot of key employees left the company after the original owners handed it to their kids.

The leading rumour is that they got caught by the CRA and fined heavily for paying taxes on credit card bills only and not their cash income.

I predict we'll be seeing Hon's Frozen Potstickers more widely available in supermarkets since Sunrise has all those connections already.

That is a pretty common occurrence in the restaurant industry. The parents put in long hours to build a thriving restaurant only to turn it over to the kids who drive it into the ground. It usually only takes a few years as the kids are usually more interested in the cache of owning a restaurant rather than actually running one.

Safeway has been selling Hon's frozen potstickers at a pretty good price. I don't know if they are the same as the ones you buy directly from Hons though.

My favourite gyozas are from a place on Victoria Drive called Wing Hing BBQ & Meat. They have them in chest freezers on the side in a few flavours. Pricier than the ones you get at T&T but a thousand times better.
