I just want to say that this is really a good post and that this should be pursued and not forgotten, this Province is in real trouble with the exploitation of Your own efforts to survive, all said here reflects what many of Us feel regardless of social status, this is a fight that should be based in moral and principles who in turn must be based in the Canadian Charter of Freedoms, is not possible to enjoy life in a place where We live like human bees producing honey for drones (as in male bee) there is a lot involved in a particular personality of every person and I say is Your dignity the first casualty of abusive and well known politicians who live like royalty at expense of Our hard earned money, added to that in this Province we have a gang of white collar criminals like TransLink, a non accountable body who coerce for money the residents of the Lower Mainland, infiltrating in Your home taxes, gasoline and tolling bridges with insaciable thirst for money, this is not legal, this is an imposition, taxes come from the latin word "Impositus" meaning imposition, taxes are a way to threat people and to make a crime legal.
just think about it for a moment. are You a muse or a man? / woman? / person?

... i've been procrastinating and putting it off for a while, but i've finally started writing an article for my website regarding the property tax problem in this province that has so many of us seeing red. expect to see it early next year sometime. i'll post a link when it's published ...

Is ok to educate people and let them know about Our rights, but this is also an issue that we must tackle together and inform the government that is not posible to work only to satisfy projects based in fantasy, I see every day more and more traffic, the government in this province main resource for employment is construction and that is what drives people crazy, the government together with the real sate companies push people out of Our properties when we are not able to pay for high taxes based in fictive values. there is also a humanitarian problem involved here, how many residents end up in shelters...? there are a great number of senior citizens that don't have enough money to pay for that big chunk "property taxes" is the biggest portion of an individual's earnings (pension) or income of any source. there must be an understanding and this is the question: why do the government needs such and such amount of money from taxes, where does this money go and why TransLink is not accountable, all this sounds like fascism, or You pay or You die.

... unreasonable property tax levies are one of the reasons why real estate prices are so inflated -- only the wealthy can afford to buy ...

  5. Any one of You had seen an article in the N.S.N about more and more siniors without home? In fact the number of homeless people is falling high.
This Government doesn't care, they work with the real state companies to take Your home under false pretences, like paying for schools in Our property taxes, when they are closing more and more schools We have to pay even if We don't have children.

... the tax they charge is based on an "estimate" of the value of your property. by extension, the tax they charge is also merely an estimate. it's illegal to ask people to pay tax estimates. the tax charged must be an accurate fee, not an estimate ...

... ergo, we don't have a legal obligation to pay the tax bills they send property owners ...

I know that many young guys don't care about property taxes right now, because they don't have a home, but it is time to support your fellow residents and prepare the future for yourselves, please help residents to fight unjust home taxes and demand our government for the fair distribution of capital gains from natural resources.

... a government that would implement a property tax scheme as blatantly fraudulent as the one in british columbia is on the way out!

You are wrong, I care because I see My dad saving money for home taxes every day, He says that if He don't do it We can lose our home, but everybody is so busy working to pay taxes, that is why people don't have time to organize and protest, and when they have time they rather go for a walk or having a rest from the office, not much of a expense there, some times we go for a lunch on Sundays but not all Sundays, We all have to make some sacrifice to save money and keep our politicians happy if not we lose our home, and at school before the strike we where talking about the fair share from natural resources and is was a subject that everyone liked, most students in My class promised to do some research but then the strike and away they go camping, not much of a luxury vacation but that is what most canadians can afford, some times we think of ourselves as little people and wonder how we became to be so tamed and accepting this burden on our back, I see my future as a new taxpayer and not as an individual, I see my name as a number but I think we lost our true identity, but as I said there is no time to protest and to organize we have to work to pay taxes, I work on summers to gel My Dad, as You can see some of Us care.

... all british columbians on the side of righteousness and godliness have a moral obligation to fight the satanic BC government on its evil property tax scam!

some time ago I contacted the British Columbia Taxpayers Association about home taxes, they said that I should contact My MLA and ask Him/Her that I don't want more home taxes, (Idiots) can You believe it?
The BCTPA is there only to appease residents, (and to collect salary for doing nothing) and the MLAs are part of this shit.

.... good for you for trying to take action against the blatant phony-billing scam the bc government is perpetrating against property owners, Grandon!

... one thing though. whoever directed you to your MLA to challenge the scam was correct in doing so. since there's no appeal mechanism for the tax bill (in fact, they don't even give you a way of registering a complaint!!!) the most obvious way of opposing it is by complaining to your local provincial government representative ...

... thanks for your comment!

So is we do a collective complain to our MLA, are you saying this could work?
or at least make the news...?

... yes, property owners should each individually file a complaint to their MLA regarding the property tax scam happening in british columbia ...

... if the MLAs receive enough complaints they will take notice. but first, file a criminal complaint with the cops reporting your property tax bill as a phony invoice scam. my bill lists eight services the crown is claiming they provide my property that i'm not receiving. that is THE VERY DEFINITION of billing fraud! be sure to include a copy of your criminal complaint in the complaint you send your MLA and also file a complaint with the issuer of the bill, which in my case is the minister of finance ...

... i've written a step-by-step procedure for challenging the government's property tax scheme which will be in my "stuff i've seen in powell river" series in the near future. i'll be sure to mention it here when i publish it ...

... thanks very much for your reply, Brent71!

The only solucion I see viable is to audit the expenses of the Government and see how much they expend each year, and make them realize that there should be a limitation for expenses and avoid unecessary projects for the community that are ludicrous, home taxes shouldn't be more than a fare share of each resident based in real needs and not in fictitious "market prices" made only to get Your money and push You out of Your property by means of criminalizing those unable to pay, the present system of tax collecting is unconstitutional and should be amended, the Government should pay back the excess of taxes paid during a period of time in which the present system abused residents in order to make it legal and fairer to all, there is also the share of natural resources that correspond to each resident of BC and therefore all Canada.
whore organizations like TransLink who are not accountable to residents of BC and shouldn't have any authority over property taxes and Translink should subsist like any other business with gain and loses and it shouldn't be used to scam money from property owners, an audit should resolve this situation and show to the public that the Government does not have any legal claim over Your property they are only administrators working for the community and not against the community, the Government can't and shouldn't harm those who elect them, if they do they can be sued in a class action (that means all of Us) for false promises and embezzlement.

    Thank You.

    igor.

Technology with create a revolution in housing analogous to what the invention of the microchip did to computers. New materials will create pre-fabricated housing parts which are as sturdy as traditional housing. This will make it possible to erect houses and buildings as enduring as traditional ones, yet as cheap as pre-fab. Possibly even cheaper than today's pre-fab.

The upshot of all this is that one day, it might be possible to purchase a good quality home for as little as between $10K and $20K. That in turn will create a panic in local governments as that would cause a steep drop in evaluated taxability. Ultimately, cities will have to come up with an approach to taxation completely different from the assessed values of housing.

In the meantime audit and class action will do, we have to get a lawyer and pay collectibly or some gate paid by a percentage of the settlement.

... oh wow, you are so CORRECT, Brian71! if ever there was reason for a class action lawsuit against the crown it's the fraudulent property tax scam the government is perpetrating against thousands upon thousands of home owners every year!

... the fact that the bar hasn't won a lawuist against the government over this problem proves unequivocally that the lawyers are in on the scam!

    ... you bet they are!
