    Hey Manu,

Time flies!! Line instruction is 9 days with senior drivers...you can drive 50-100% of their shift, just depends how comfortable you are with it. Just drive slow and don't worry about the schedule! Nobody will say anything for going too slow.

First 3 weeks is the hardest so good job and hope to see u on the road in 2-3 weeks :)

Hello! Yeah, it seems silly to go and put ads on like 500 buses, and t-h-e-n- stop accepting applications 2 weeks later...

I don't know what to tell you...

My understanding is NO LAYOFFS, but approx 20-25 current Full Timers at Shuttle could be reduced down to Part Time hours as of Sept 1... Depends on if any apply this month to switch to Conventional...

I keep my eye on both (Internal & External) websites...

    About 6 more at BCRTC-SkyTrain...

2 More -each- at AirCare, Transit Police and HandyDART...

Coast Mountain Bus has re-posted their need for more CASUAL DEPOT COORDINATORS... $28 an hour PLUS an extra 22% in lieu of benefits while "temp" status...

"On Call" for the busiest times, including the 5 Sign Ups each year and when they find themselves short of regular staff.... (The Signs Ups each last from one week to 5 weeks, depending on depot and whether it's a local or system wide sign up)

The Vancouver depot is staffed 24/7 and the other 6 depots are staffed from approx 3:30am til 3:30pm daily...

www.translink.ca and then Careers, and THEN Coast Mountain Bus Company...

Yes there was a reduction of 30 000 hours for September for the community shuttle. That is only temporary they will start hiring again for the Community shuttle at the end of the year most of those hours will come back in the new year. So look to apply some time in December or January. About the ads on the buses my guess is that they didn't expect so many community shuttle drivers to transfer to Conventional. The classes are pretty much full into the fall and there is an enough of a pool to draw from to finish the year off.

Thanks astuteness for the post... I don't know how soon "most of those hours" will re-appear... The next budget year kicks in April 1...
September is bringing cuts to Community Shuttle, and December is bringing more "Service Optimizations" to Conventional...
BUT we will always need MORE drivers, it's just a question of when, and how many....

For those of you wanting to get your "foot in the door" any ways possible: There are 3 great "Entry Level" type opportunities posted this week over at Coast Mountain Bus!

-FAREBOX ATTENDANT, at $20.25 an hour...
-CUSTOMER INFORMATION CLERK, at $21.33 an hour...
-CASUAL- DEPOT COORDINATOR, at $27.50 an hour...
PLUS "Temps" earn an e-x-t-r-a- 22% in lieu of benefits! APPLY NOW! Get your foot in the door! Access to Internal job vacancies...

Not to mention the 22 job postings up now at TransLink... Nearly a dozen MORE at Coast Mountain Bus... 3 MORE at Transit Police too...

    www.translink.ca and then CAREERS!

Driving is not the only job here, and is not the only avenue into the company....

Hey guys! Found this thread while googling for company policies.

Just found out I got shortlisted for a Customer Info Clerk position, and my 'testing session' is next Thursday.

Can anyone who's done this test tell me how they fared/what I need to know?

According to the email, I'll be tested on 'customer service' and recordings.

Hello! Welcome! "JaneDOH" was in the running for that position a couple of months ago... Right now we're on page 26 of this thread, go back 3 or 4, or maybe 5 pages...

Read "JaneDOH"'s responses... She started posting back on May 22.. You might even start a conversation with here.... Not sure if she's been popping in here or not recently....

I did that job way back in 1989, and it's alot more computerized now...

    Good Luck!

If you didn't already know, the Call Centre is located near Gateway Station in Surrey, and is open 6:30am til 11:30pm every day of the year....

AND there are 2 you tube video links just about 8 posts above this one....

What do i need to know about the 'testing session'? They said it'll consist of recordings and customer service questions

I have NOT done any of the current testing...
I would assume they have recordings of a variety of transit questions, and complaints, and would like to see how you deal with each situation...

"Casual" Office staff do NOT get paid benefits or vacation days, BUT do get an extra 22% $$$ in lieu....

Access to Internal job postings and eventually "Regular" status...

OK... I don't quite understand why but: There was a new posting added mid May for CASUAL CUSTOMER INFORMATION CLERKS...
Usually a posting like that only is open to the public for like 5 business days....

It's been open to the public for nearly 3 months?

Anyways, it appeared to be off the website yesterday, BUT it's back up today???

Similar to the 2 CASUAL DEPOT COORDINATOR postings as well....

    Good Luck, if interested!!

Hi everyone, let me start by saying I have found so much useful information here. It's been very helpful as I advance in my recruitment process. I applied for a conventional operator and had my medical last week. My question is, how long does it take to get the results and how long before training begins? Thanks.

Welcome! I'm sure some of the more recent applicants can answer your question better...

But there seems to be a bit of a back log/slow down over the past 2 months or so...
The company was trying to fast track any existing Shuttle drivers who want to switch to Conventional...
The process can take weeks if not months between each step...
When I went thru the process 25 years ago I was already an employee here and it took about 4 months to go thru the whole process!

    Good Luck!

There are now 27 pages of posts and information in this thread... If you go back to page 21-22 there are a couple of applicants who finally got their training dates...

"John Riley" went thru training in June...
"Jessy", I believe, is still waiting for an actual training date...

There are similar posts and information over at http://memebee.com/vancouver/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=22448&start=420
