For those of you who might be waiting for a specific period of time to pass before re-applying:

I just noticed that the posting for CONVENTIONAL TRANSIT OPERATOR TRAINEE was re-posted/re-issued as of today: March 26!

I popped into the Careers page over at www.translink.ca and then clicked onto Coast Mountain Bus Company, and up came like 13 job postings including a NEW one for CUSTOMER INFORMATION CLERKS, PART TIME, TEMPORARY to start, $20.91 an hour to start PLUS 20% in lieu of benefits... Accepting applications April 2 to 8...
BUT as I clicked onto that posting, it shows as being open, to new applicants, from March 12 to 19???

I don't know if there is some sort of error or misprint... I don't know if you can apply now, or if the dates of Mar 12 to 19 affect the application process now???

I'll update you as I see things unfold...

If anyone here is applying for that Information Clerk posting, I'd be interested in knowing whether or not they are in fact accepting applications from April 2 to 8th?

Maybe the did post again, BUT used the previous (old) posting?

This opportunity was updated and re-posted AGAIN as of this date! The updated wages, which increased by 2% April 1, are now $18.26 an hour for the 2 weeks of training, and then 3 raises, 8 months apart, until the top rate of $24.31 an hour is reached (April 2014 rates)...
"Temporary" staff earn an extra 14% instead of benefits...
"Regular" staff earn paid holidays, medical, dental and extended health benefits...

Coast Mountain Bus has once again re-re-re-issued their posting for CONVENTIONAL TRANSIT OPERATOR TRAINEES!

6 weeks paid training, at $21.27 an hour, and then 3 more raises- 8 months apart, until top rate of $30.38 an hour is reached (April 2014)...
PLUS benefits and vacation, and pension plan, and transit pass...

Click onto Coast Mountain Bus off of the Careers page over at www.translink.ca

It also appears as though HandyDART is hiring again as well! There is a new posting up today for CASUAL- PARA TRANSIT DRIVERS... Based out in Clovedale, but services the entire Metro region...

Click onto HandyDART off of the Careers page over at www.translink.ca

when you think they are going to call to notify me about next step.

It's a very slow process!! Not sure how long it will take, but mine was in January and it took them 2.5 weeks to contact me after my road test.

Just your criminal record check and medical to go!!

Just an FYI....I had to wait almost 2 months for a training class, after completing all the steps...so be prepared to wait another 2-3 months before you start!

    Good luck!!

Hearing unofficially, thru the grapevine, that Coast Mountain Bus will need to hire 300 Conventioanl Ops this year, and probably a similar number in 2015, just to keep up with retirees and those moving on to other positions...

The do often have new Conventional Training classes every 2 weeks, of approx 14 or so new Trainees... 6 weeks PAID Training...

Just noticing an awful lot of Training Buses out and about yesterday....
I think maintenance is training their new SUMMER RELIEF staff as well as bus driver training...

There is also a notice up looking for 4 more Driver volunteers to switch to North Vancouver for the summer... If they don't find enough volunteers they can/may FORCE out from the bottom of the spareboard in Vancouver...
The Fall sign up starts Mid July and would probably bump the most junior Ops back out of North Van starting Labour Day....

I applied for a conventional transit operator position just over a month ago and haven't heard anything. How long does it usually take to be contacted? If I don't hear anything, how long before I can re-apply? Thanks!

I don't know for sure, but I would assume that you should at least get a "Thanks for applying" email by now???

Maybe someone who has applied recently can shed some info on that...

If you really want to know, maybe get in touch with HR?

Coast Mountain Bus Company's main number is 778-375-6400 and then maybe ask for Human Resources/HR??

Here's a dumb question: Did you at least get a confirmation that they received your application?

Its all good now. Last 2 steps are a breeze!! Criminal record check takes around 5 mins. You send it to Coast Mountain and around 1 week after, they schedule for their medical doctor.

Medical: test your vision, hearing, blood, urine for drugs, bit of a physical: lift 50 pounds and 5 sit-ups, blood pressure...its all pretty basic!

Then its just waiting 1-2 months for the course to start...good job!!

Like superchecker said previously, now is a good time to apply for Coast Mountain. I was informed yesterday that they had almost no training classes up until mid April. Now they are saying they have classes pretty much right through until the end of the year!! Lots of opportunities right now!!

    Good luck everyone!!
