    Hi Superchecker,

Do conventional bus drivers usually get 80 hours per pay period or is it usually closer to the guaranteed 75 hours?

Any idea where I can get the pre-trip training dvd prior to training?

    Thanks!

The minium is 7.5 hours a day, so the minimum is 75 hours every 2 weeks... (I've been getting the occasional 100 hours lately due to so much OT)...

There are many shifts that pay more than that... From just 1 minute extra a day to an hour or more per day....

If you work past 8pm/20:00, you also get an extra 75 cents per hour shift premium...

Sundays (& Holidays) are paid at time and a half...

If a stat holiday falls on a Sunday= Double time....

Also: Lately there has been quite a bit of overtime available as well...
Some come in early (am trippers), some work after their shifts, some occasioanlly find small pieces to do on their split shift break....

WAGES: If you didn't already notice the wages, they are listed on the BUS OPERATOR OPPORTUNTIES page found on the Careers page at www.translink.ca
There is a (6 weeks) Training rate: $20.85 an hour...
And then for the following 8 months: $22.34 an hour...
And then for the following 8 months: $23.82 an hour...
And then for the following 8 months: $26.80 an hour...
And finally TOP RATE: $29.78 an hour...
Wages as of April 2013... NOTE: add 2% as of April 2014!

Any idea if the employee bus pass works on west coast express? And what is the criteria to have a 2nd buss pass issued for another family member?

Yes, your TransLink "Compass" pass works everywhere on the system....
And as for the 2nd pass: It's for your spouce OR child, AND it is now a taxable benefit too...

It is a 13 passenger van, a bit bigger than a minivan. You will drive for about 1 hour from Granville/73rd to downtown and back again. You will do a hill park and backing up into a parking space. It is pretty basic and just drive safe, making sure you stop for all stop signs and drive slow through school/park zones. Keep your speed around 50km/hr and watch for pedestrians. Almost everyone passes, as long as you follow the rules of the road. Good luck!!

Just curious how the sign-ups get done 4 times a year. Is this done in writing or on the internet through your employee account? Is choosing vacation done in the same way? How do you sign on for overtime....do they post all of the extra shifts and employees look online and sign up for them?

Basically, just curious what can be done through your employee account on the website.

    Thanks!

Currently sign ups are done in person... They are eventually going to switch to electronic sign ups...
We sign in seniority order, and each driver gets 2 minutes per sheet to sign...
In Richmond for example- There are almost 400 drivers, and roughly 80 or so sign each day, so it takes 5 days to do a local sign up... A system wide sign up takes like 22 days or more...
If you are supposed to be working at the same time you are signing, the company gives you a sign up relief so that you can go to the depot and sign...
You can do some prep work by checking out the sheets and paddles online before sign up....
NOTE: Vacation Sign Ups you do NOT get a relief... If you can't be there in person- leave a choice slip or phone, or be at the mercy of your union rep as to what he/she signs for you...

Looking for overtime? There are 3 boards at the depot office counter that you can leave your name on:
The Yellow Board is for signed up Op's looking for morning overtime the next morning...
The White Board is for signed Up Op's looking for overtime after 2pm...
The Blue Board is for Spareboard Op's looking for overtime after 2pm...
Spareboard Op's get first crack at any OT...
Each time you work 2 full hours of OT, in a single pay period, you get a tripper rated against you... If an operator jumior to you has less trippers against them than you they can rub you off any OT/or are senior to you in getting any OT you might be trying to get...

I'm sure they will eventually expand on what we can do online, but right now the website is just for research and also finding out what assignments they did assign you (Spareboard) for the next day...
The Vancouver Depot Office is open/staffed 24/7, where as suburban depots are only open/staffed 3:30am til 3:30pm...

Do they just want you to be honest or if you had metabolites in your system you would not get the job?

Just curious which benefits are paid by Coast Mountain: msp premiums/extended health/dental? Are these covered for spouse as well?

I've heard thru the grapevine that it ends up costing about $17 a month, but I'm not 100% sure on that...
Some employees turned in their spousal passes when the taxation changed 3 or 4 year ago now...

The company pays/funds the Short Term sick leave (First 17 weeks)...

The employees fund the Long Term sick leave (18 week to 104 weeks)...

    Thanks Superchecker!

What would be classified as short term sick leave? If you took a week off work with something like bronchitis, would you get paid for that? Does this require a doctor's note?
