Total time from video testing to medical: 2 months

Is anyone else waiting for a training class? How long have you been waiting since the medical or interview?

    Just some general comments/ramblings today:

LOT'S of overtime these days! I guess with their minimal hiring over the past 2 years, and Compass Training, and maybe the flu bug, there is TON'S of overtime!
In fact some suburban depots are so overwhelmed, that the company is now shipping Operators out from Vancouver... We have a Holding List system that they use first, and then post for volunteers; and then if necessary, the can FORCE the newest Op's out from Vancouver too...

Seen new office staff lately too.. I guess they filled those 5 "Casual" Depot postings....

Speaking of Office Staff: their union has been without a contract with CMBC for like 3 year snow, so they recently held a strike vote in order to move their contract negotiations along...
The union voted 91% in favor of strike action, if needed.. I don't think we'll see a strike anytime soon, it's just a posturing thing...

    "Shuttle" or Conventional?

Have you gone out and ridden many buses?

Conventional. I have ridden a few busses, not many of the trolley buses yet.

I think the interview was a bit better the second time. None of the same questions, but they were similar to the first interview. Less number of questions and faster interview now. I thought it was better.

    Hi Guys,

I'm new to this thread. I just got an email from coast mountain about my Video and Comprehension Test. I've been applying with translink and coast mountain for years. This is the first time I got a reply. Based on what I have read on this thread, it seems that it takes quite a bit of time before someone gets hired in. I guess it's worth the wait but I really hope it doesn't really take too long to get in. If I pass the test and trainings that is.. :)

Welcome! It can take a few months to go thru the various hurdles... Plus, it depends on how many and how fast they want to push thru trainees... Training classes can be like 6 new hires per 2 weeks or the can swell up to like 20 in one class every 2 weeks...
Not that I experienced the typical amount of time, but for me it took 4 months to go thru the process, and I was already an employee at the time!

There was at least one guy caught up in the unexpected hiring freeze if 2012, ($30,000,000.00 shortfall) and he waited an extra year for classes to start up again...

    I do wish you luck!

Conventional training can be very intense... LOTS of homework, lots of tests and quizzes, they squeeze an awful lot into the first 3 or 4 weeks... You can prepare by studying the Commercial Airbrakes manual, and pre trip inspections... You don't need to know the bus routes, but you could familiarize yourself with the TransLink website and the fact that you can print individual bus route maps, if desired...
    Vancouver routes include: #2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 14, 15, 16, 17, 19, 20, 22, 25, 32, 33, 41, weekend 49, 50, 84, 100 and some late night "N" routes...

We have 6 conventional depots in the system (Vancouver, Burnaby, North Van, Port Coquitlam, Surrey & Richmond) plus Oakridge for Community Shuttle...
