Howdy there! So this thread hopefully becomes useful as more users are in post-sec. So post any post-secondary questions which you feel are one question and aren't really big enough for a thread. :) Or if you're too lazy to make a thread!

**And please bold your post-secondary institution so that it's easier for people to answer to :)

    Any ways, my question:
    UBC
From past experiences, has Chemistry 121 often been offered for summer sessions at UBC?
Currently, it's only being offered in Term 1 and I don't know if I really want to tackle Chemistry along with French, Econ, and Psych. There is the prior knowledge of first year chem because I was thrown into the IB Diploma Program and took IB Chemistry HL.

But, after speaking to my Arts advisor, she said that my course load looked very heavy. Any ideas?
    Please and thank you.

So I'm really just stuck between two schedules:
    STT-ECON 101, ECON 102, ASTU100, PSYC 100
then I choose FREN 122, FREN 123, FMST 210, AND CHEM 121=31 credits
    or
    STT-ECON 101, ECON 102, ASTU 100, PSYC 100
then I choose FREN 122, FREN 123, AND SOCI 100=30 credits

Course load doesn't look heavy to me :p. Chem 121 is always offered in the summer...it actually has a nasty reputation because a lot of students fail it and have to retake it sometimes multiple times. Not familiar with the IB curriculum so I'm not sure how much that would help you.

Supposedly it's easier during the summer too, but that's the lame way of doing it.

^ Thanks! That's awesome haha, oh it's like AP (Advanced Placement)
So IB Chemistry HL is the equiv. to AP Chemistry except us IB kids are stuck with having to take TOK (Theory of Knowledge aka Philosophy) and write a stupid 4000 word essay about some stuff we like.

I guess I'll take it in the summer then yay!
LOL duh! Art kids' courseloads is nothing compared to Science kids'! :p

I find that the schedules don't change much from year to year, so you can use the 2010 Summer schedule as a guideline. Same thing applies to the Winter session.

I was checking the syllabus for 09/10 and apparently it's going to be a new textbook:
    http://www.chem.ubc.ca/undergraduate/syllabi/Chem_121.shtml

Compared it to 08/09 and the syllabus seems to be different. Most of it I recall in my textbook except for the Quantum Mechanics, she just brushed over that. Oooooh, looking forward to Chemistry in the summer and Biology. Yay me.

Don't know if anybody knows much about UBC 1st year Commerce, but what's the credit limit for term 1?
I didn't even know such a thing existed until some of my friends registered on Friday and when they tried to add an elective onto first term to make it 6 courses instead of 5, they got some error-type message saying that they exceeded the limit for credits for term 1. On the other hand, I know another person that added 2 electives onto first term to make it a total of 7 courses, yet he didn't get any message telling him that he couldn't register for that many.

I'm impatient waiting for UBC to email me back with a response... =/

Each faculty will have their own "total allowable credits". Science is 36 per year and Arts is 30. Anything above, you have to ask for permission. I don't know what it is for commerce though.

Off topic, but the new UBC Calendar (site with all the faculty/degree/program information) is much harder to navigate than the old one.

However, there are exceptions for First year students. For example, a first year Arts students is allowed to have a maximum of 32 credits a Winter Session. As I heard Science could go to be 37 credits.

    ^ Right, forgot about that.

Yeah, not trying to max out the credit limit (it's generally 31/32 for first year in Commerce but I don't know what the maximum is, I'm not crazy enough to want to do max though), but I'm just confused by the Term 1 credit limit that there apparently is. Nobody that I know of knew about it until they tried registering and weren't allowed to =/

So my friends just got screwed over because they have to take Math 184 instead of Math 104, and 184 is 4 credits whereas 104 is 3.
The only semi-useful response I've gotten back from [email protected] so far.
