I love yoga but have gotten to the point where I think the prices are becoming a joke.

The yoga studio owners much be raking in the dough by charging people on average between $10 - 20 a class!! They upsell you on the $120 monthly membership, by the time you had HST....yikes. My favourite line is, "This is the best option for you even if you only go 2x per week." Ha!

The quality of instruction isn't even that good in many classes, which have 30 - 40+ people crammed together like sardines! What kind of overhead do studios like Semperviva believe they incur to be charging so much? And then the weekend workshops with out-of-town guest instructors....don't even get me started on the high prices they charge for those. It's a bit of a racket.

I try to practice on my own but it's nice to go to a class once in a while. So bummed that my gym closed as my membership included yoga classes.

Does anyone know of any reasonably priced yoga classes (preferably west of Main St) with free street parking? I'm familiar with Lululemon's free classes but they can get a little cramped and nuts - especially the West 4th location, which seems to attract a lot of students.

    Signed,

Sick of paying outrageous prices for yoga

    Nice try, Ravit :p.

On a serious note, the OP mentions $10-20/class being too expensive, so I don't think your post helps by suggesting a $10 per session class.

Your best bet would be groupon-type vouchers. Social Shopper typically advertises $20 for a month of unlimited yoga/pilates at Inner Space every couple of months. They are pretty good.

Another option would be to keep an eye out for charity yoga classes by donation such as: http://www.forumvancouver.com/threa...e-fitness-nutrition-classes-by-donation.2453/

Sorry if I missed someone writing this already, but do you know there's FREE yoga in all the Lululemon stores? Check their site for specific times. I went tonight and it was great, my body loves me :)

Hey, Have you checked out Steve Nash Sports Club.

They do have many yoga classes included in the membership, as well as pilates and spin classes, and obviously you get the gym as well.

If you are a student you will get a super good deal right now, or if you prepay for the year you will get second year for free. or even come try out the gym for free!

Come to this! The entrance is in the alley and right now there a small spray painted sign that says 45 west hastings in grafitti on the door.

    Free Yoga Classes in Vancouver

    Lululemon

We all know Lululemon Yoga Wear but did you know they offer complimentary classes in their stores? Every week they clear the store’s floor, spread out the yoga mats and bring in certified instructors from local yoga studios in Vancouver. Classes are first come first serve and they fill up fast so get their early. For more information check the Lululemon website.

    YYoga

YYoga offers a free class for first time students, with a complimentary towel and mat. They offer power yoga to hot and their yoga studios also have wellness centres with services like massage therapy, naturopathic and acupuncture. They have 8 locations throughout Vancouver, Burnaby, North Vancouver and Richmond.

    Vancouver Community College

If you’re a student at VCC the student’s union offers a free yoga class once a week at both their downtown and Broadway locations. The schedule on their website says Fall 2012 but someone told me that it’s still happening.

    Karma Teachers

Karma Teachers offers free or by donation yoga classes to the Downtown Eastside community. It’s their way of promoting selfless giving and encouraging a healthy lifestyle. They offer classes 7 days a week and include everything from Hatha to Power.

    Bikram Yoga Vancouver

Bikram Yoga Vancouver offers yoga in exchange for working or cleaning at their studios (watch out for the steamer [IMG] ). They have 3 studios in metro Vancouver and if you haven’t tried Bikram yet, I highly recommend it – you feel so good afterwards.

    Unity Yoga Teahouse

Unity Yoga Teahouse offers a free Karma Hatha yoga class on Sundays in exchange for a donation to the Vancouver Food Bank. You get to enjoy some meditation and a member of our community gets the benefits as well – best Karma there is.

Almost Free Yoga Classes in Vancouver

    Passport to Prana

Passport to Prana is an innovative and awesome program! For $30 you get a 1 year membership card that entitles you to 1 free class at numerous yoga studios in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto and Victoria. This is a great idea if you travel across Canada a lot and it really allows you to try out the different studios and classes to find one that works for you.

    Radha Yoga Vancouver

Radha Yoga Vancouver is a smaller studio in Vancouver that offers drop-in classes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays that are either $20 or pay-as-you-can. On Sundays they offer a free Satsang class. Definetly work a try.

    Semperviva Yoga Studio

Semperviva Yoga Studio offers an introductory offer for new students – $30 for 30 days of unlimited yoga! That is an amazing deal! They offer lots of different types of yoga (from Hatha to Vinyasa Power Flow) and have lots of classes 7 days a week. They have 4 locations in metro Vancouver. Current Semperviva members can bring a new student to their first class for free.

    UBC Yoga Club

UBC Yoga Club offers discounted rates to students and the public alike. Yearly memberships are $10 for registered UBC students and $20 for the general public; after signing up each class is only $2. They offer everything from Hatha to Power Flow to Kundalini Yoga.

    Moksha Yoga Vancouver

Moksha Yoga Vancouver has karma classes at their Kits studio. For a minimum $5 donation (proceeds go to charity) you can one of their hot classes. If you’ve never tried hot yoga, this is the perfect way to try it (I love it!).

Do you know of any free or almost-free yoga classes in Vancouver?

How are the Lululemon classes? Are they really busy?

Does anyone know if Canada Place will be having outdoor karma yoga classes this year?

PS: Three Jewels Vancouver also has donation classes: http://threejewelsvancouver.com/

YYoga discontinued their free first class offering. Each class is $20, or perhaps less with a package deal. I just called.

The Roundhouse Community Centre in Yaletown offers a Vinyasa Flow class named Karma Yoga on Saturday @ 9:00am and Sunday @ 9:30am for $5.00

The cheapest of all Vancouver yoga would have to be the 3 weekly classes at the Carnegie Community Centre at Main and Hastings.

All you need is a Carnegie CC membership card, which costs a whopping $1/YEAR. With this card you get unlimited use of ALL programs, including the 3 yoga classes per week.

    Could there be a better deal than 3 classes/week x 52 weeks a year = 156 yoga classes for $1 !!!!!!

Yoga is done in the gym on the 2nd floor. I’m unsure if you need to bring your own mat or not. But it would be safe to assume they have mats there since everything is subsidized.
